Abstract
A new and distinct cultivar of Deutzia plant named ‘Duncan’, characterized by its compact plant habit; freely branching growth habit; bright yellow green-colored leaves; and numerous white-colored flowers.
Description
Botanical classification/cultivar designation: Deutzia gracilis cultivar Duncan.
The present Invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Deutzia plant, botanically known as Deutzia gracilis, and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘Duncan’.
The new Deutzia is a naturally-occurring branch mutation of a unidentified selection of Deutzia gracilis, not patented. The new Deutzia was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a branch of a plant within a population of plants of the parent selection in Grand Haven, Mich. in July, 2002.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar by softwood cuttings taken at Grand Haven, Mich. since July, 2002, has shown that the unique features of this new Deutzia are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations of asexual reproduction.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Duncan’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Duncan’ as a new and distinct cultivar:

- 2. Freely branching growth habit.
- 3. Bright yellow green-colored leaves.
- 4. Numerous white-colored flowers.
Plants of the new Deutzia are most similar to plants of the parent selection. In side-by-side comparisons conducted in Grand Haven, Mich., plants of the new Deutzia differed from plants of the parent selection in leaf color as plants of the parent selection had green-colored leaves. In addition, plants of the new Deutzia are more compact than plants of the parent selection.
The accompanying colored photograph illustrates the overall appearance of the new cultivar, showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type.
The photograph is a close-up view of typical flowers and leaves of ‘Duncan’. Flower and foliage colors in the photograph may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the colors of the new Deutzia.

Very freely flowering with about 24 flowers per inflorescence and about 576 flowers and flower buds per lateral branch. Flowers last about three to four weeks on the plant. Flowers not persistent. Flowers slightly fragrant, sweet.
