Abstract

A new and distinct zonal geranium plant named ‘Fiworewhi’ having red-orange colored flowers which exhibit lighter markings and having a star-like appearance as shown and described.

Description

Varietal denomination: ‘Fiworewhi’.
Botanical classification: Pelargonium×hortorum (zonal geranium).
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of geranium known by the varietal name ‘Fiworewhi’. The new variety was discovered in a selective breeding program in Dresden, Germany. The new variety is the result of a combination breeding of unnamed, unpatented selections from breeding group 7K-34. The new variety exhibits the compact growth and branching of its heritage, but differs in its flower color. The new variety was first asexually reproduced by cuttings in Dresden, Germany in 1998. The new variety has been trial and field tested and has been found to retain its distinctive characteristics and remain true to type through successive propagations.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
The accompanying photographic drawing illustrates the new variety, with the color being as nearly true as is possible with color illustrations of this type.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT
The following detailed description sets forth the characteristics of the new cultivar. The data which defines these characteristics were collected by asexual reproductions via cuttings carried out in Dresden, Germany. The color readings were taken indoors on plants grown in 19 cm. pots in greenhouses during summer. Plants for the description were 9 months old. Color references are primarily to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London.
PLANT
Form: Upright.
Height from media surface to top of foliage: 22-26 cm.
Height from media surface to top of umbels: 30-34 cm.
Time to produce a flowering plant: 16 weeks.
Growth: Erect, well branched.
Strength: Does not require artificial support.
Roots: White, adventive, 3.5 weeks to develop.
Leaves: Opposite arrangement; zone present.
Length.—4 cm.
Width.—6.5 cm.
Shape.—Overall: Reniform. Base: Cordate. Apex: Pointed.
Margin.—Bicrenate.
Texture.—Hairy.
Color.—Upper surface: 137B with zone of 147A. Lower surface: 147B.
