@moewfoW Q vi tmeowo UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL MULLEN AND ANDREW A. MULLEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A MARGINAL PROTECTING-STRIP FOR PAVEMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,249, dated October 29, 1901.
Application filed September 30, 1901. Serial No. 77,155. Term of patent 14 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, DANIEL MULLEN and ANDREW A. MULLEN, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Marginal Protecting-Strips for Pavements; and We do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a novel design for marginal protecting-strips for pavements; and the object of the invention is the provision of a design of the character mentioned which shall be useful as well as ornamental.
To this end the design consists in a marginal protecting -strip comprising an elongated body one edge of which is perfectly straight throughout its entire length, while projecting from its opposite edge isa series of uniformlyspaced outwardly-extending wings, each of which is provided in its under face with a recess or pocket. At the juncture-points of the wings With the body and adjacent to the upper surfaces of the wings is arranged a series of curved webs, the thickness of which webs is considerably less than the thickness of the body and wings, and arranged in the upper surfaces of the body and wings at suitable intervals is a series of openings surrounded by countersinks. Formed upon the upper surfaces of the body and wings is a series of spaced projections, and arranged in each end of the body and extending transversely thereof is a dovetailed groove, which gradually tapers from one of its ends to the other.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a marginal protecting-strip embodying the herein-described design. Fig. 2 isa side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical plan view. Fig. 4 is an end elevation. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view on the line 5 5, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates an elongated body having one of its edges perfectly straight throughout its entire length, and projecting from the opposite edge of said body is a series of uniformlyspaced outwardly-extending wings 2, each of said wings being provided in its under face with a recess or pocket -3. At the juncturepoints of the Wings 2 with the body 1 and adjacent to the upper surfaces of the wings 2 is arranged a series of curved webs 4, the thickness of which Webs is considerably less than the thickness of the body 1 and wings 2, and arranged in the upper surfaces of the body and wings at suitable intervals is a series of openings 5, surrounded by counter-sinks 6. Formed upon the upper surfaces of the body 1 and wings 2 is a series of spaced projections 7, and arranged in each end of the body 1 and extending transversely thereof is a dovetailed groove 8, said grooves gradually tapering from one of their ends to the other.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a marginal protecting-strip for pavements, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in the presence of two Witnesses.
