FIG.E.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM F. MARSHALL,
BY MESNE PATENT OFFICE.
OF PROVIDENCE, RI'IODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR, ASSIGNMENTS, 'IO BRISTOL MANUFACTURING (10., OF
ATTLEBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 33,575, dated November 20, 1900. Application filed October 8, 1900. Serial No. 32,456. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may cancer/1,
Be it known that [,WILLIAM F. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a certain new and original Design for the Back of a Brush or a Similar-Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Figure l is a plan view of the hack of a brush containing my design, and Fig. 2 a side view of the same.
As shown in the drawings, the loading or material feature of my design is an eagle inclosed within scrolls and foliates, beneath which are intertwined lizards and foliates.
In detail the design has as its central figure an eagle l, with distended legs 2 and raised wings 3. Surrounding the eagles body and starting from a point beneath the wings is a mass of branches 4, intermingled at intervals with foliates and terminating in scrolls and foliates. An upwardly-directed branch from the mass 4 expands into leaflets 5 and a beaded scroll b to form the top embellishment of the brush-body.
The handle ornamentation is formed by a downwardly-directed branch 7, which at the base of the handle turns and sweeps upwardly, inclosing a lizard 8, which is the central ornament. Branches, foliates, and tendrils spring at intervals from either side of the branch 7 throughout its length.
Near the junction of the brush-body and handle is a lizard 9.
The eii'ect of this design is greater when executed in bold relief, as herein illustrated.
It is apparent that this design is applicable to mirror-backs and other similar articles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for the back of a brush, or a similar article, as herein shown and described.
' In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM F. MARSHALL.
