UNITED STATES PATENT CFFicE.
SAMUEL STOHR, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE \VILCOX &
EVERTSEN, OF SAME PLACE.
[DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 81,0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,516, dated September 19, 1899.
Application filed August 14, 1899. Serial No. 727,218. Term of patent 3%- years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL STOHR, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced 5 a new Design for a Handle for Spoons or Similar Articles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and
i0 exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a face view of a handle for a spoon or other similar article embodying my design;
5 Fig. 2, a reverse view of the same.
This invention relates to a design for a handle of a spoon or similar article; and the design consists in the configuration and ornamentation of the handle, as herein shown and 20 described.
As herein shown, the lower end of the face of the handle is formed by a shell and scroll ornamentation a, upon which rest two outwardly-curved scrolls b, the space between a 5 which is filled by a foliated ornamentation c.
From these scrolls b the handle curves upward, inward, and outward in long reverse curves d, and thence expands in a series of florid branching foliated scrolls and leaves 6,
giving a highly ornate outline to the handle, 0 and having between their branches a scroll and foliated ornamentation f. Curving inward and outward from this ornamentation are scrolls g, surmounted by still other foliated scrolls 7L, which merge at the tip of the 3 5 handle into a shell ornamentation The surface of the handle between the outlining scrolls g and it is left in a plain panel The reverse of the handle follows the same outline and has substantially the same scroll 40 and foliated ornamentation as has the face, except at its lower end depends a foliated ornamentation 7c, overlapping the body of the spoon or similar article and that the center presents a plain surface from the crowning- 5' tip 3 to its extreme lower foliated ornamentation 70, all as shown in the accompanying illustrations. 4
I claim- The design for the handle of a spoon or simi- 5o lar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL STOHR. \Vitnesses:
H. H. EVERTSEN, FRARAY HALE.
