VTO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN:
Be it known that we, SAMPsoN HAINEMANN, SIMON HAINEMAnN, and DAVID STEINER, all of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original'Design for a Trade-Mark for paints; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description there-oi', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the lett-ers of reference marked thereon.
Our design is composed of lines and characters, delineating the Goddess of Liberty, in connection with the words Magnesia Green. Our design has a sketchy base, representing the bottom of the skirt of the dress, shown by A. The feet and ankles are fully shown at B B. The skirt voi' thel dress is represented by nearly parallel lines, commencing near the bottom of the dress, and converging towards the waist, as seen ata a aia a a, the two outer lines of the dress being shown at C C. The belt is represented by a. line extending transversely with the gure, partially in form of an are of a circle, as shown at C. The breast and shoulders are formed by means of four curved parallel lines, extending from the belt in an upward direction to the point of the shoulders, as represented at the letters o o o o. The right arm is distinctly shown by two curved lines, n u, the arm `being stretched out in a horizontal position. In the hand of tbesaid right arm isa pendant, b, at the lower end of which is attached a scale-beam, fr, at each end of which are also attached scales 2-2, suspended by cords, represented by three converging lines, which may be known by the letters yy. The head of the figure is reprcsented by characters marked by the letters .s w r m. E represents the left arm by two nearly parallel lines, which extends downward with a pitch or decline of about fifty degrees from the body of the figure. In the left hand is a shield composed of lines and stars, as plainly shown at F. On the head is a crown of stars, represented by two lines running around the brow of the head in a horizontal direction, and extending in a curve upward at the back of the head, and stars intervening between the lines, as represented at G in the figure.
The words Magnesia Green are placed so as to surmount the figure, and, being placed in a circular manner, form the are of a circle. The word permanent also forms the arc of a circle beneath the feet of the figure, over the centre of which the said figure stands, and the remaining words are arranged below the word permanent," so that the words form nearly an ellipsis, in the manner shown in the drawings.
The object and eiect of the whole is to produce a systematic, neat, and, at the same time, a novel and distinctive mark, by which we intend that 4a specific variety of' paint may be known and recognized by the trade. We intend, by this mark, to distinguish it from any other kinds of paint, whether manufactured by ourselves, or by any other person or persons.
Having thus described the design or trade-mark, what lwe desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a trade-mark as herein shown and described.
