Patented June 1 NVENTI'? l w/rNEssEs A TTOHNE YS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK B. BURNS, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A SEAT-TOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,158, dated June 1, 1897.
Application filed April 12, 1897. Serial No. 631,860. Terni of' patent 3% years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK B. BURNS, of New York cityin the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Seat-Top, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a seat-top, showing my design; and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken diagonally across the same.
The design is applicable to stools and chairs of all kinds, especially to piano-stools.
The design shows a seat circular in outline and having its outer edge or circumference nearly vertical, the sides thereof being slightly flaring or sloped outward, the larger part being at the top. The top surface is formed into a series of small cushions B, arranged in lines at right angles to each other. These in plan are square in outline, having the corners thereof recessed by the circular heads of the securingnails C. In elevation taken on diagonal line of the rows and through the se curing-nails C the cushions are semieircular in outline. Each small cushion is sharply defined from the others by creases E between them. The remaining portions of the cushions about the edge, which are cut by the circular outline of the seat, are carried up so as to ll ont their proper outline as much as possible. The material forming the top of the stool is carried entirely to the bottom at the edges, entirely covering the board A, forming the body of the seat, and is finished at its lower edge by a beading D.
The leading feature of my design is a circular seat having its upper surface upholstered to form small cushions which have a square outline in plan, with their corners eoncavely recessed, and a small circle formed at said corners by the head of the securingnails, the cushions being arranged in rows at right angles to each other.
Another feature of my design is the semicircnlar outline of the cushions on the diagonal line through the securing-nails and the carrying out of this outline in the fractional edge sections.
Another feature of my design is the slight outward iiaring of the edges or enlargement of the seatat the top.
Another feature of my design is the seat cushioned as described, having the cushioncover extending over the edge clear to the bottom thereof. v
I claim- The design for a seat-top as herein shown and described.
