GLASS VESSEL.
No. 23,317. Patented May 29, 1894.
4* w -D Z UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES l). BERGEN, OF IlA \TFORD, ASSIGNOR TO THE J. D. BERGEN COMPANY, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A GLASS VESSEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,317, dated May 29, 1894.
Application filed April 13, 1894. Serial No. 507,470. Term of patent 3% years.
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES I). llERuEN, of Hartford, in the couutyof Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for a Glass Vessel; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specificaiou, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a plan view of a glass vessel containing my design; Fig. .2, a view of the vessel in vertical central section.
This invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of glass vessels, and the design consists in the configuration and ornamentation shown in the accompanying illustration and particularly in two horizontal grooves formed concentric with the center of the vessel and in tangential grooves which intersect the horizontal grooves so as to form a concentric band of six-sided or lozengeshaped figures.
The edge of the design is composed of a band or series of fan-like figures A, having curved indented edges, placed point to point, and together forming a serrated scalloped edge. Below this band of fan-like figures is located a band of lozenge-shaped figures B, placed side by side, and respectively located under the meeting points of the fans. These lozenge-shaped figures are six-sided, somewhat vertically elongated in form, and have their upper portions wider than their lower portions. They are virtually raised upon the outside of the vessel, and their surfaces are each ornamented by lines of cutting forming an intricate rose-like star. The bottom of the vessel is ornamented by a ten-pointed star, the opposite points of which are connected by deep grooves G. The central or body-portion of the star is occupied by a rose-like figure D, while the surfaces E inclosed by the points of the star are hatched. The lozenges B are formed in part by two deep concentric horizontal grooves F and G, the former intersecting the lower ends of all of the fan-like figures A, and the latteriuclosingthe ten-pointed star located in the bottom of the vessel,as already described. These deep concentric grooves are intersected by deep tangential grooves H, which form the sides of the lozenges. The outer ends of these deep grooves intersect each other at the apices of the fans, while their in ner ends intersect each other be low the lower concentric groove G, and between the points of the ten-pointed star. The triangular figures I which vary in size, and which are formed by the concentric and radial grooves described, have hatched surfaces.
The predominant feature of my design lies in the two horizontal grooves formed concentric with the center of the vessel, and in the tangential grooves which intersect the horizontal grooves in such a manner as to form six-sided or lozenge shaped figures of which a band is thus established around the vessel.
I claim The design for a glass vessel as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
