DESIGN FOR A COFFlN-HAND SOCKET- iL-PECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 4,422, dated November 13, 1883.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WiLLmir M. SMITH, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented anew De- 5 sign for aCofiin-Handle Socket; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same,
10 and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a face view.
This invention relates to a design for a coffin-handle socket; and it consists in the configuration and ornamentation, as shown in the 1 5 accompanying illustration.
The general outline oi the socket is that of a parallelogram. At each angle afanshaped ornament springs from the body outward, and on each of the four sides is a straight bar rep 2o resenting a rope or cord having the appearonce of running around the body of the socket beneath the fan-shaped ornaments at the angles, those fan-shaped ornaments appearing to cover the bends in the rope. It is this corded margin of the socket, having the an- 25 gles covered by the fairshaped ornaments extending from the body of the socket, that constitutes the characteristic feature of this de sign.
I claim- The design for coffin-handle socket, consist ing of the body having a fan-shaped ornament extending therefrom at each angle,with the representation of a cord passing around the edge of the socket beneath said fan-shaped 5 ornaments, as described, and shown in the ac companying illustration.
