Be it known that I, RICHARD BEALL, Jr., a citizen of the Unlted States,`residin at Washington, in the District of Colu-mia have invented a vRemovable Pile for Forming Concrete Piling, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that method `of formingiles of concrete or cementlwhich consists 1n first drivin a pile into the ground then withdrawing said' pile, and then filling the opening formed thereby with concrete or cement in lastic or Huid form, willich when it sets fbrms the permanent P One object of my invention is to provide for driving or withdrawing the removable pile with'the 'exercise of much less power than is required when piles lof this class as heretofore constructed are used, a further at the bottomof the.' opening formed by the removable pile a base for the ermanent cement or concrete pile, and a sti l further object being to rovide a construction' for under-water wor or for use in unstable ground.

When the pile tapers inwardly from to to bottom, there is the same resistance to t e driving of the pile, and the resistance to the withdrawal of the pile is also excessive, because, owing to the atmospheric pressure, theearth is caused to firmly cling to the pile, so as to increase the difliculty .of starting the same. Hence its movement is retarded for some time after it is started. To facilitate the withdrawal o'f the' pile, I make this enlarged oint detachable therefrom. .Hence the witlidrawal ofsaid pile can' be effected without frictional contact of the walls of the opening to any material extent with the sides of the pile.
