To all whom it may concern:`
Be it known that I, EARL P. KlLcorNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cairo, in the county of Alexander, State of Illinois, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Suspension Means for Elevators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to elevators such as are used to carry Weights of various kinds up and down in buildings and it has special reference to a novel suspension means adapted to be attached to any size elevator so that -certain weight indicating mechanism illustrated in my co-pending patent bearing the Serial No. 570,167 may be applied thereto.
'lhe principal object of the invention is te provide a novel arrangement by which a weighing device may be attached to any size K of elevator within reasonable limits so that it will not be necessary to build the device integrally with the elevator.
With the above'and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain novel features of construction, and combinations of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and hereinafter specifically described and claimed.
In the acconipanying` drawings, Fignrc 1 is a view showing the interior of an elevator shaft with an elevator car therein provided with the improved suspension means. Fig. 2 is a disassembled view of certain details used to adjust the device to ditl'erent sized elevators. Fig. 3 is' a perspective View of certain other details used of the device.

The attaching frame comprises a pair of brackets 13 which are secured opposite each other to the side members 12 of the elevator 'lhe outer faces of these brackets are concave. At 141 arev indicated arms which have ends 15 formed with convex faces which fit the concave faces of the brackets 12. Connecting the upper ends of these arms lit and pivoted thereto is a cross bar 1f; which forms the top member of the frame and on which the parts ofthe weighing mechanism are all supported. The ends 15 and brackets 13 are provided with suitf vater while the in the adjusting able bolt holes for the reception. of securing bolts 17, the holes in the ends 15 being tapered to permit of movement of said ends relative to the brackets 13. In order to relieve the strain from these bolts 17 the members 15 are provided at their lower ends with eyes 18 whereto are attached the ends of a bridle rope 19 which extends down the sides and underneath the bottom of the elevator, being supported at intervals by suitable brackets 20. On the arms 15 are rovided guides 21 which embrace'the guldes 11 of the elevator well and below these guides are other guides 22 arranged for a. similar purpose. In order to hold the `arms 14 perfectly rigid a cross brace is provided which consists of a pair of members 23 each having one end firmly fixed to a respective arm let and having the opposite ends overlapping and provided with meshing teeth 2st. These teeth are held in mesh by means of suitable clips 25 provided with set screws 26, the clips surrounding the members 23 and the set screws being screwed up to force the teeth firmly together. In order to lift the device 'when the same is not in an elevator well the members let are further provided with eye-bolts 27. It will thus be seen that by properly proportioning the length of the bridle rope the hanger of the device maybe adjusted to any height of eleadjustment of the members 23 permits the same to be set to any width of elevator, the concave and convex members allowing for this.
In order to suspend the device the member 16 is provided with a suitably disposed central opening through which passes a suspension bar 28 carrying on its lowerend a spring seat 29. The member 16 is also provided with a spring seat 30 and between the two spring seats is a spring 31. Rack arms 32 extend upward from the spring seat on the suspension bar and serve to actuate weight indicating mechanism indicated in general at A and B.
