8110014 fez ICE-BAG,. r1
To all whom .it may concern:
Monroe, in the parish of Ouachita and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new .and useful Improvements in Ice-Bags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ice bags, and has particular reference to an improved form of ice bag having means provided thereon for securely retaining the parts 1 thereof in position and for draining the water from the bag without the necessity of opening the bag. 1
The leading object of my invention is the provision of an ice bag having an improved construction of top for retaining the ice and Water to prevent leakage of the latter, which top shall be provided with means for draining thewater from the bag without removing the top thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of improved means for securing the rubber bag to the metal neck which will provide a permanent secure joint that will not stretch or in any manner allow the water to escape around the neck.
To attain the desired objects, my invention comprises an ice 'bag having an improved metal neck and a clamp acting in conjunction with the neck to secure the bag in position, the invention further residing in the feature of the cock in the top of the cover for thebag and in the specific construction and arrangement of the various parts substantially as described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my complete bag. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of thetop or closure, and, Fig. 4 represents a top plan view of the metal neck.
In the drawings, in which similar characters of reference-are employed to denote corresponding parts in the several views, the numeral 1 designates the bag proper formed from rubberized cloth or other waterproof material, said material being gathered at the top to fit closely around the metal neck 2 having the threads 3 formed therein to engage the top or closure of the bag, the neck -2 being preferably formed from aluminum and having the annular flarfge or rim 4: with the countersunk an specification of Letters Patent. Pat t 5 Application ,filed November 2, 1910. Serial No. 590,404. I I l nular recess 5 formedthereintoi ecewetithe Be it known that I, WALTER S. LEYYENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at i an s raw a T OFFICE.
' WALTER sco'rr LEYENS, or ivionnon, LoUIsIAniA.
lower portion of the washenfi, To secure the bag in a. tigl1tjoint pen the exterior of-the neck ,I employ my iinproved clamp comprising a split ring Ts-ha, ing ears 8 projecting from-the ends thereof a clamping screw 9 engaging, said ears f forcing them together 1 to decrease. .dle ameter of the ring. In order thatxthe ring; may more tightly clamp the bag 1. on fe; 5 neck 2 than is possible with a flat inger; band, I form thering with the threads l O of the same pitch and corresponding to the threads of the neck to. fit therebetween and Y force the material forming thebagf intothe 7, spiral groove between the threads and tightly engage said material, forming a water and air tight joint which cannot become accidentally detached and which will be proof against leaks.
Engaging the interior of the neck 2is the improved top for my ice bag, said top comprising a cup-like portion 11 having threads 12 to engage the threads of the neck and having an annular rim or flange 13 .with a recess 14 to engage the washer 6 and curving downward to fit around the periphery of the rim 4: of the neck, while fitted over said flange 13 is the top 15 of the closure which provided an air chamber in the portion 11 to make it a poorer conductor of the outer heat. Formed in the top 15 and the cup 11 are the openings 16 in which are engaged the stem 17 of the outlet or drainage cock, said stem having an enlarged chamber 18 in 9 which is engaged the turn plug 19 having the winged head 20 "and having a passage 21 formedin its plug portion adapted when turned to coincide with the passage 22 through the'stem, when closed the plug retaining the air, water or other contents of the bagbut when opened facilitating the draining of the bag without spilling the ice therefrom or slopping the water over the sides of the bag.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, the construction and use of my bag will be fully nnderstood and its advantages be readily appreciated, and it will be seen that I have provided a simple and durable bag of inexpen- .sive construction, which bag on account of WhiCh together receive the washer, and further on account of the over-. lapping flange of thecover, is proof against l leakage between the cover and neck, and V inthe top or closure and in the neck interposed which bag will therefore be as nearly per feet as regards containing of the liquid without leaking as possible-to construct. By
' the use, however, of my improved cock insertedin my top I amabIeto drain the su{ 'perfluous-water or air from the bag without removingthe top and can. ourthe; water;
directly out from the- -coc vwithout the slightstndangen of losing the ice 7 or of $10 pin the water on the outside of the bag as 1s lia le'to occur when pouring from its' .wide mouth, a
I Iclaim: 1. The combination with an Ice bag having a metal neck provided with an annular recess in its top, of a-washer engaged in the recess, a top having'a portion roviding an air chamber extending into t e neck and engaging the same, said tophaving a recess receivin the top of the washer and having a depen ing rim overlapping the neck, there being a stem extending through the top having a passage formed therein, and .a turn plu engaged in the stem for controlling sai passage.
,2. The ice bag herein described, consistingof the bag proper, the threaded neck fitting the mouth ofthe bag and having the recessed flange, the gasket fitting in said recess, the split ring engaging the bag and having the screw-for binding the bag against the neck, the hollow top having threads to engage the threads of the neck, the hollow stem in said cap and the drainage cock-com-
