T o all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, HARPER E, .ST ATro a citizen of theUnited States of America,
and resident of Empire county of Jefii'erwheel-body rendering said parts interchangeable and adapting the wheel-body for having different sizes of rims or crowns applied thereto.
A further object is to provide a gear-wheel which may be quickly and conveniently,
. transformed from one working size to another by the mere interchange of rims or crowns and without the removal of the wheel-body or hub from the shaft on Which it is mounted.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the particular construe tion, arrangement and combination of parts which will hereinafer be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which.
Figure 1 is an inner side elevation of a gear wheel of the bevel-gear type constructed in accordance with my invention, a portion of the gear rim being broken away; Fig. 2 is an outer side elevation of the same, a portion of the wheel body being shown broken away; and Fig. 8 is an enlarged section on,

spider composed of a hub 1 anda plurality .of. integral radial arms 2, the latter being preferably webbed to an appropriate distance from the hub, as shown, for affording increased strength. An integral rib 3 is formed-on the inner face of each arm 2, which rib projects outward beyond the end of the arm and constitutes an extension 4. A. lug 5 is formed on the side of said extension 4 adjacent to the end of the arm 2, and a second lug 6 is formed on said exten sion at its extreme end, said lugs being formed with their inner faces flush with the corresponding face of the extension and having bolt holes therethrough. Each of the extensions 4 are offset to form shoulders 7 behind the position of the lug 5, 'said shoulders being adapted 'to abut the inner endsof angular arms 8 formed integral with, and on the reverse face of, a toothed gear rim or crown 9 fitted against the inner faces of said extensions. Said arms 8 are, shaped to substantially correspond with the extensions 4 and are adapted to rest flat against the latter, having their opposite ends projected beyond the inner and outer peripheries of the rim. Bolt-holes are provided in the opposite ends of said arms 8 for registering with the holes in the extensions, and bolts are projected through theregistering holes for rigidly connecting the rim or crown to the spider.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I provide a gear-wheel which may be readily transformed from onesize to another by the mere removal of the rim or crown and the substitution of another of the desired size.
As is obvious, rims of spur-gear and other types may be employed as readily as may the bevel-gear type depicted in the figures of the drawing.
It will be apparent that the invention is readily susceptible of various mere mechanical changes or alterations in theform and arrangement of its parts and within the scope of the appended claims.
