Description

Letters Patent No.'99,483, dated February 1, 1870.
'nvnoven WAGON-JACK -Hwa..-
The Schedule referred to in these Lettersl Patent and making port of the same.
To all whom-it may concern.'
Be itl known thatI, P. B. RUSSELL, of Malone, in
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. H
The nature ot' my -inventionconsists in the const-rnction and arrangementI of a wagon-jack, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled inthe art to which my invention appertains,to -make and use the same, vI will now proceedl to describe its construction and operation, referringto the annexedxdrafwings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation; 4
Figure 2 is a vertical section; and
Figure 3 is a horizontalsection.
A represents the bed-piece-,having an upright stand-g ard, B, secured to the same.
About the centreof the standard B, isa vertical slot, a, of Asuitable length, and on thei-ontside are two ver-` tical grooves, b and c.` The groove b extends from the upper edge of thestandard to about half the distance to the upper edge of the slot a, w'bile the groove c extends downward from near the lower end of said slot, a suitable distance.
0n the front side of the standard B, is placed the g elevating-piece C, which at its upper end is eut, in the manner shown in fig.1, in a kind'ofl stair-step arrangement, so that the jack can be used for wagons of ditl ferent height.
thus be seen that `by the motion of the two cams D.
and F, the elevating-piece O is raised or lowered at pleasure.
The cams D and F are so shaped and arranged that when the handle or lever E is raised, the piece G will be as low down as possible; then when the lever is 'pressed downward, the connecting-bar I causes the larger sides of the two cams to come together, which raises the upper cam F, andwith it the elevatingpiece C.
Having thus fully described my invention,
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire t'o secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction and arrangement of thestandard B, with its slot a and grooves b `@elevating piece C, having projeotions'b c',`cams D F, handle E, and connecting-bnr, I, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have herev unto set my hand and seal, this 19th day of July, 1869.
