PORTABLE-LAMP APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 21, 1910. Serial No. 572,985.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD MAX EATON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Niagara Falls, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Portable-Lamp Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for portable lamps, which may be carried by firemen, policemen and people in like occupations, my object being to produce an electric lamp, the battery for which is carried upon the person.
My invention will be best understood by 1' reference to the following description when means.
taken in connection with the accompanying illustration showing specific embodiments thereof, while its scope will be more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 shows the apparatus mounted upon the person of a fireman. modified form showing a lamp adapted to be Fig. 2 is a carried in the hand. Fig. 3 shows the lampand mounting means. Fig. 4 shows a battery case. Fig. 5 is an elevation of a battery adapted to be used therewith. Fig. 6 is the cross-section of the battery. Figs. 7 and 8 illustrate a plug and socket for connecting the light wires.
Referring now to the figures of the draw-. ing and the embodiment of the invention shown therein, 1 and 2 are clamping springs adapted to fit around the brow of a person and furnish a mounting means for the lamp, when the same is worn upon thehead as shown in Fig. 1.

At 16 I show a battery, preferably, a storage battery, which is adapted to be slipped into the case 12. On one end of this battery are terminals 17 and 18, which are connected to the electrodes of the-battery and which engage the terminal connectors 14 and 15 whena battery is slipped into the case.
At 19 I show a ventilator for the battery and at 20 a handle for convenience in chang- The battery contains a false end 21 and is sealed by means of a sealing compound shown at 22.
In the form shown in Fig. 2, I show'a handle 30 connected to the reflector 5, so that the lamp may be carried in the hand.
In the form shown in Fig. 3, the part 3, carrying the lamp may be turned upon the pivot 4 to elevate or depress the light according to the desire.
The'members-l and 2 are sprung apart and a part of the body upon which the lamp is to be worn, is inserted therein and the springs allowed to grip the same, holding the lamp in position. The battery case is also mounted upon any suitable part of the body, such for example, as the belt, as shown. A battery is slipped into the case and the plug and plug socket connected,
completing the circuit of the lamp. The fireman or other person using the lamp is then freeto use his hands for other purposes. The lamp will be unaffected "by smoke or gases, such as are generated in ordinary firesl While I have shown these particular forms of my invention, it will be obviousto those skilled in the art that numerous and extensive departures from the forms and details of the apparatus here shown, may be made without'departing from the spirit of this invention, the same being herein shown,
solely for the purpose of clearly illustrating specific embodiments thereof.
