Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KARL BRENZINGER, OF LEVERKUSEN, NEAR COLOGNE, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO FAR- BENFABRIKEN VORM. FRIEDE. BAYER & CO.. 01? ELBERFELD, GERMANY. A COB- PORATION OF GERMANY.
Patented May 23, 1911.
A20 DYE.
993,020. Specification of Letters Patent.
No Drawing.
To (LZZ whom it may concern:
Be it.kn0wn that- I, KARI. Bnnxzmonn, doctor of philosophy, chemist, citizen of the German Empire, residing at Leverkusen, near Cologne, Gernmny, ihave invented new and useful Improvements in New Dye, of which the following is a specification.
It has been found thatthe diazo compound of the ben'zylated azimino-ortho-toluidin can be combined with Q-arjdamino-S-naphthol-t3- sult'onic acid. The dye thus obtained is after being dried and pulverized a brmvn-bhu-k powder soluble in hot water. On beimc treated with stannous chlorid and hydrochloric acid it; is spl't, up into benzyl-aziminoorthototnidin and aniilm-l-aryl-amino-8- naphthol-(S-sultonic acidand dyes wool from acid baths brown shades, which after treatment with chromium compounds are fast to milling.
In order to illustrate the new process more fully the following example is given, the parts being by weiglit: 226 parts of the benzylcompound of azim'ino-ortho-toluidin:
Application filed February 9, 1911. Serial No. 607,610.
are diazotized with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid. The diazo compound is then added with an excess of soda to a solution of 315 parts of Q-phenylamino-8-naphthol-(t-sulfonie acid. After some time the combination is complete.- The dystuft is isolated in the usual manner. It dyes wool from acid bath a beautiful brown shade, which after chroming becomes fast; to milling. t
I claim The herein described azo-dye obtainable from benzyl-azimino-ortho-toluidin and 2'- arylaminc-Saraphthol-(S-snlfonie aeid, which is after being dried and pulverized a dark brown powder soluble in water, yieldin upon reduction with stannons ehlorid an hydrochloric acidhenzylazimino-ortho-tolui- KARL BRENZINGER. h 8.
