sists in providing a conduit from the lower part of the stove to the flue and also a conduit from the chamber above the fire bowl I to the flue, the upper and lower chambers duits to the flue, and means for admitting air at the lower part and also at the upper partof the stove, whereby when the dampers are in one position the air will pass up through the fire bowl and when the dampers are in another position the draft will be only at the top of the fire bowl and will pass around the fire bowl and out to the flue, for slow combustion.
Another feature consists in providing an air inlet at the top of the stove with conduits therefrom along the wall of the magazine to the lower end of the magazine.
The nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a central vertical section through the stove. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of some of the valves or damper construction, parts being centrally broken away. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1. is a vertical section through the magazine on the line 44 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the damper upon the magazine.
In detail 10 represents the shell of a stove, 11 the base, 12 the grates, 13 the fire bowl supported on legs 11.3, 14 the air inlet damper at the lower end of the stove, 15 the ash pan, 16 the smoke flue, 17 the magazine, 18 the door and 19 the stove top or urn.
There is a chamber 118 below and surrounding the fire bowl and also a chamber 119 above the fire bowl and surrounding outside the stove at the top.

rates the upper chamber 119 from the con-, duit 20 and, in fact, the upper chamber is I entirely separated from the lower chamber excepting when communication is established between them by the fire bowl damper hereafter described.
The flue or exit openings 21 and 121 are both controlled by a single damper 22 which is secured on the rod 23 that is mounted horizontally at the upper end of the partition 32 and has an upturned handle end 24 Therefore when the damper 22 is in one position it shuts off communication between the lower chamber and the smoke flue and when in the other position it shuts off communication between the upper chamber and the smoke flue. The damper 22 and external handle 24 on the rod 23 also operate the damper 25 through the connecting rod 26 which runs from the damper 22 to the bell crank lever 27 fulcrumed on the pin 28 to the side of the fire bowl, and the connecting rod 29 extending from said lever 27 to the damper 25. The damper25 is a crescent-shaped plate with perforations through it adapted to register at times with perforations through a stationary plate 30 secured between the shell 10 and the upper part of the fire bowl and preferably about the forward side of the fire bowl, whereby communication between the chambers above. and below the fire bowl may be established or closed, as desired.
The damper construct-ion above described is so arranged that the fire bowl damper 25 will be closed when the damper 22 closes the conduit 20 from the bottom of the stove and then air passes through the damper 14 at the lower part of the stove and through the fire bowl and out through the opening 121 into the smoke flue. This is the condition when a fire is started. After the fire is well under way the damper 22 is changed so asto close the opening 121 and open communication with the flue through the lower part of the stove, and such movement of the damper 22 will open the damper 25 and then air from the upper part of the stove will feed only the fuel at the top of the fire bowl and the gas will pass through valve 25 and around the fire bowl and out without passing through the fire bowl. The lower damper 14 may then be opened or closed, as desired.
The down-draft is provided by means of openings 40 through the top 19 of the stove and an air chamber between the top of the stove and the lid 41 of the magazine. The air passes from the top air chamber down through the conduits 42 located in the wall of the magazine to the bottom of the magazine. The conduits 42 are closed by the curved damper 44, shown in Fig. 5, which slides upon the top of the magazine which is provided with openings 45 that register with. the conduits 42. There is a handle 46 for operating said damper.
lVhen the conduit 20 from the lower part of the'stove is opened, and also the valve the down-draft passes from the top of the stove to the top of the fire bowl and thence around instead of through the fire bowl and out to the smoke flue.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A magazine stove including a casing a fire bowl therein with a chamber above the fire bowl and a chamber around and below the fire bowl and said two chambers are separated and in communication with the smoke line through separate openings, a damper for controlling said two openings to the smoke fine, a damper opening and closing communication between the upper and lower chambers, and a connection between said two dampers whereby the operation of one will cause the operation of the other and in such manner that when the fire bowl damper is closed the smoke flue opening from the upper chamber will be opened and that from the lower chamber will be closed.
2. A magazine stove including a casing a tire bowl therein with a chamber above the fire bowl and a chamber around and below the fire bowl and said two chambers are separated and in communication with the smoke line through separate openings, a damper for controlling said two openings to the smoke flue, a damper about the forward portion of the fire bowl for controlling communication between said two chambers, a bell crank lever mounted near the top of the fire bowl, and a connecting rod between said bell crank lever and each of said dampers whereby the two dampers will be simultaneously operated.
3. A magazine stove including a casing a fire bowl therein with a chamber above the fire bowl and a chamber around and below the fire bowl and said two chambers are separated and in communication with the smoke flue through separate openings, a damper for controlling said two openings to the smoke fine, a damper opening and closing communication between the upper and lower chambers, a connection between said two dampers whereby the operation of one will cause the operation of the other and in such manner that when the tire bowl damper is closed the smoke flue opening from the upper chamber will be opened and that from the lower chamber will be closed, a magazine in the upper chamber of the stove, an air chamber at the top of the stove, vertical conduits along the wall of said magazine from said air chamber to the lower end of the magazine, and a damper for closing said conduits.
4. A magazine stove including a casing a fire bowl therein with a chamber above the fire bowl and a chamber around and below the fire bowl and said two chambers are separated and in communication with the smoke flue through separate openings, a damper for controlling said two openings to the smoke flue, a damper opening and closing communication between the upper and lower chambers, a connection between said two dampers whereby the operation of one will cause the operation of the other and in such manner that when the fire bowl damper is closed the smoke flue opening from the upper chamber will be opened and that from the lower chamber will be closed, and a magazine in the upper chamber of the stove with the fuel inlet opening at the top.
