GARMENT-SUPPORT FOR WARDROBES.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, JOHN THOMAS BATTS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports for WVardrobes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which,it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in garment supports for wardrobes, and the object of my invention is to provide means for adapting a device commonly known as extension slides for wardrobes to supporting various articles thereon without using the garment hangers commonly used, and the invention consists in certain attachments adapted to be applied to any slide of the class shown in my Patent No. 872,401 dated December 3, 1907 in which is a garment supporting member movably mounted within the wardrobe and adapted to be projected outside the same, and upon which garments may be hung by means of the usual form of garment hangers.

My device consists of certain attachments adapted to be applied thereto, whereby a series of arms or rods may be supported upon this member, and projecting laterally therefrom upon which arms or rods various garments may be hung, such as trousers and the like, and in various novel features of construction and arrangement, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.

1 represents the movable member of any convenient form of garment support for wardrobes preferably adapted to be moved outward from within the case, and to be returned within the same and upon which garments are ordinarily supported by means of the usual hangers having hooks to engage said member.

be supported upon the member 1, and preferably secured thereto by clips 3 and also provided with a recess 4 to engage the handle member 9 of the device whereby the plate 2 is held in horizontal position upon the said member 1. This plate 2 is provided with a series of openings near its respective edges in which are pivotally inserted the downwardly bent ends of rods 5 which rods extend horizontally and in opposite directions and are independently pivoted to turn in a horizontal plane. These rods 5 are also preferably held in said openings by means of a superposed and thinner plate 6 secured to the plate 2 in any convenient manner. This upper plate is also traversed by rollers 8 mounted on a supplementary yoke 7, whereby a further means of maintaining the horizontal position of the plates 2 and 9 is provided.

This device can be readily detached or removed as occasion requires by detaching the clips 3 and removing the yoke 7, and again replaced by attaching said clips and yoke.

In operation, the arms 5 can be used to support trousers or other like garments, and the rods can be swung apart at any place. to conveniently remove any one garment from any one rod as occasion may require, and the garments thereon will be carried into and out of the case by the movement of the slide in the usual manner.

What I claim is 1. An attachment for garment supports, comprising a plate, arms inserted in the plate and extending outward therefrom, and means for attaching said plate to the movable member of a garment support for wardrobes.

2. An attachment for garment supports for wardrobes, comprising a plate having marginal openings, rods bent at right angles and inserted in said openings, and means for attaching the plate to the movable member of a garment support for wardrobes.

3. The combination of a plate having openings near margins, rods bent at right angles and inserted in said openings, retaining plates above the rods and attached to the first named plate, and means for attaching said plates to the movable member of the garment support.

4. In combination with a garment support, a plate secured to the movable member thereof, rods attached to the plate and projecting outward therefrom, a retaining plate above said rods, and rollers attached to the garment support and adapted to traverse the retaining plate.

5. In combination With a garment support for Wardrobes, a plate mounted on the movable member of said support and having a recess in one end to receive the handle member of said support, clips embracing said movable member and attached to the plate, and rods pivotally mounted in the plate and extending oppositely therefrom.

6. In combination With a garment support for Wardrobes, a plate mounted on the movable member thereof and having marginal openings, rods bent at right angles and pivotally inserted in said openings, a retaining plate above said rods and resting thereon and also attached to the first named plate, a supplementary yoke on the support, and r(1)llers on the yoke traversing the retaining p ate.
