To all whom it mag} concern:

Be it known that I, FANNIE O. ADAMS, citizen of the United States, residing at East Auburn, in the county of Placer and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a bed-clothes protector and particularly pertains to a covering or slip for the upper end of bed-clothing, such as blankets, quilts, and the like.

The object of this invention is to provide a bed-clothes protector which is simple and economical to manufacture, which may be easily and readily applied and removed, and which can be lau'ndried with little trouble.

Another object of the invention is to provide a sanitary, temporary covering for that portion of the bed-clothing coming next to the face of a sleeper, so as to protect the bedclothing from belng soiled by unhealthy and contagious secretions thrown off or dis charged from the head, such as caused by coughing, drooling or sneezing. It is especially applicable for use in hotels, lodging houses, hospitals, schools, and-the like, as well as in the home and is particularly serviceablewhere beds are transiently occupied.

The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view of the inside of the cover. Fig. 2 is a view of the outside of the v cover. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the manner of applyin the invention. Fig. 4 is a view of a combined safety-pin and button employed in conjunction with the invention.

In the manufacture of the invention I employ a suitable material, preferably a fabric,

such as ordinary sheeting or pillow case muslin, which is cut in the shape shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, and which consists of a substantially rectangular portion A having basal wings, 2, coextensive with the part A. The height of these wings is preferably half of part A so that when the sheet is folded tn the medial 1ine-'aa the upper part will take the position indicated by the dotted lines of Fig. 1. The entire margin is hemmed in the customary manner and further provided at the top and bottom edges with securing tapes 3 and 4 as best shown in Fig. 1. The invention is applied in the following manner: The end of the bed-clothing to be protected or covered is thrown back about two feet after the bed is made, and the sheet A is laid underside down on what is the underside of the bedding, with the upper edge of the bedding terminating on the center aa of the sheet. The button-holed flap 4 is then secured to hooks or buttons 7 formed on safety-pins 8 previously attached to the bedding on its underside, not shown. The to part of the protector is folded over on the line aa as shownin Fig. 3 and the basal or end wings, 2, 2, are fo'ld d in and secured as will be readily understood. The overlap or hem prevents the pins 8 from anriloying'the sleeper and hides them from sig t.

It is obvious that any suitable style of fastening may be employed in lieu of the combined pin and button shown in Fig. 4; however, it is desirable that this fastenin be so designed as to be detachable from botl i the bedding and the cover A.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pats ent is A bed clothes protector, consisting of the combination with a blanket or the like, of a sheet adapted to be folded on its medial line, having the portion at one sideof said line made longer than the portion at the other side forming basal wings adapted to be folded in toward each other and over a portion of the adjacent edges of the blanket.
