To all 'whom 'it 'may concern: Be it known that I, OLIVER C. KNIFE, a citizen of the UnitedA States, v residing at Palo Alton, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California,.have invented a new and useful Portable Heater, of'which the following is a speciticationl` insuch full and clear terms as will enable lthoseskilled in the art to construct and use the same.

This invention relates to a heater used vfor the purpose `of warming thehands o1' feet' inbed, or in a sleigh or other place where it may be necessary.

,Another object of the'invention is to produce` a heater which .will be easily and' cheaply constructed, and which will have no vprojecting wires, save the inlet wires, to

catch on bedding, etc.

l The heater is formed of the back portion F and the front portion A. whichv may be of any suitable material as mineral wool, the two parts being secured to each other in any suitable-manner. vThe back'F vhas-a space in which is seated the non-conducting-member A. which is flat and has the .showing the meansfor connecting two` ofthe heating'element B wound thereon, binding posts at the upper end being usedl to make -theproper connection with-the heating vele# mei-'it B, a fusible wire R being inserted be-l tween the posts .S and E to =prevent the elem'entB from becoming too hot,or burning out.;l The core upon which the coil is wound and the covering therefor are composed of heaters shown all that is necessary is to connect them by means of the fiexible flaps H, shown in .F ig. 3, the tacks M holding the twosections together. If it isdesired to use the heater outV of doors', or in a place where persons would be liable to place their feet on it the metal cover J vmay be used -to protect it from'rough usage. j If it is to beused in a '-bed', or when a person islying down it may be made .to conform to the shape ofthe back or arm or leg as thecase may be.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettersv Patent of the United States is as follows:
