CONCRETE RAILROAD-TIE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. Bnnnu'ron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements iniConcrete Railroad- Ties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is primarily designed to construct a durable and simple means whereby the rails may be securely fastened to a concrete tie whereby there will be little or no tendency to break or crumble the concrete as the train passes thereover.
The invention resides in the provision of resilient means which the train will cause to yield in passing thereover.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as he einafter more fully described. I

Throughout the following detail description and on. the several figures of the'drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
In constructing'the concrete railroad tie in accordance with the present invention, the tie 1 is provided with a plurality of tubular members 2 mounted therein. Embedded in the under surface of the. tie is a pair of plates 4, one being located adjacent to each terminal of the tie. The said plates 4 are provided with apertures through which bolts 3 are inserted, said bolts extending through the tubular members 2 and projecting above the upper surface of the tie 1. The tubular members 2 extend a little above the upper surface of the tie and are adapted to pass through openings provided in the resilient or yielding member 5 which lies flat 'upon said upper surface. A hearing plate 6 is placed in superposed relation to the Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed January 18; 191-1.

yielding member 5, said bearing plate being provided with openings through which the bolts 3 are adapted to pass. The bolts 3 are provided with threaded terminals to which nuts are applied to secure the clamping member 7 upon the bearing plate 6, thereby reta-iningthe rail 8 in its operative position.
The bearing'plate 6.is held in spaced re lation to the resilient member 5 by a. plurality of spring tongues or members 10 pressed upwardly from the plate 5, as illustrated in Fig. '5. spaced relation to the resilient plate 5'by a second means, viz., sockets 9 which are flared to receive the beveled terminals 12 of the tubular members 2'. The upper terminals of the tubular members are slotted, as illustrated in Fig. 6, to provide spring sections 11.
It will be understood that, as the train or car passes over the rail, there will be a yieldingof the spring tongues 10, and also a contraction of the spring sections 11, as will obviously be seen. From. the above construe tion, it will be observed that there will be a minimum tendency to injure the concrete tie by passing tra ns, and thereby prolong life.
The reinforcing elements of the tie ma be provided in the usual manner having'tlze longitudinal reinforcing rods 13 and the vertical rods 14 which retain said longitu nal rods in spaced relation when forming the tie.
Having thus fully described my inventimu what is claimed as new is 1- 1.
