MULTIPLE-PLUG SOCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 1911.
Application tiled October 30, 1909. Serial No. 525,528.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Loom H. Fleuri, 'av citizen of the United States, residing at 2623 Huron street, Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Multiple-Plug Sockets, of w'hlch the following is a specication.
The inventi-on relates to an improvement in plu sockets for electric connections, and is partlcularly directed to a single plug connection carrying a series of sockets for the attachment thereto of a plurality of service plugs.
The 'main object of the present invention is'the provision of a plugadapted for connection with a wall or ceiling socket and carrying a plurality of independent sockets for the reception of separate fixtures, all of Y diameter to provide a base section 5.
- of the the sockets being with the main plug.
The invention in the preferred form will 4be described in the following specication,
reference being had particularly to the ac companying drawings in which the figure represents a View in elevation partly' in section showing the improved multiple socket plug, the parts of one socket being connected and the parts of the other socket being separated. The improved multiple plug socket is made 'up to include a plug 1,' a coupling body 2 and a 'plurality of sockets 3, the latter being desi ed to receive electric attachment plugs, t e plug 1 designed to engage any fixed socket. y
The plug 1 is of the usual type compris' ing an insulated section 4 of approximately uniformV diameter for a portion of its length and then gradually increase tothe maximrxiln e plug is rovided on its exterior surface with a snug tting metallic casing 6, forming one lug conductors, said casing ybeing threaded) at 7 for engagement with the threads ofthe socket, as is usual. The section 4 ofthe plug is centrally provided with a rod conductor 8, terminatin at the respective 4ends of the lug-in isk heads 9 and 10, as shown, t e former being designed to engage the central conductor termlnal in the fixed socket. The body comprises an insulating section 11 having a sectional shape corresponding .tothe number of seckets desi ned to beconnectedto theA plug 1. In the instance shown,
in electrical connection` will Vmake l p The insulating section designed to t vvith.`
where two sockets are connected to theplug, the section 11 is triangular in shape with the respective faces circular in plan. The body is covered by a metallic facing l2, projected beyond each face of the body in-the form of an annular member, one of said members, as 13, being designed to engage the base portion 5 of the plug 1, and the remaining members 14: and 15 being `designed to engage the socket sections. The sockets are of duplicate construction, including the usual socket 16 andthe socket casing 17 adapted to receive and retain said socket 16 to the body 2, the plug carrying the usual contacts 18 and 19. The socket section 17 of each socket is designed to engage one of the annular members ofthe body,- said section 17 being for this purpose formed with a bayonet slot- 2O designed to engage a Vpin formed on the particularmember, so that the sockets may be connected with the body in an obvious manner. The body is' also connected with the plug, by the similar connection, tthe body in this instance being formed with one or more bayonet slots 21 to engage a suitable pin formed on the exten sion 5 of .the plug.
A conductor 22 is connected to the terminal 1() of the plug and within the body branched to provide conductors 23 and 24 which maybe connected to the respective plug portions ofthe socket members, the
casing 6- of ,the plug being, through the medium of a 'connecting rod 25 connected' by a conductor 26 branched at 27 and 28 to the plug portions of the res ective socket mem-` sov bers. With the parts t us arranged either or both of the socket members maybe supplied with current, through the usual keys of sockets, v
interiorly andexteriorly formed with cony. nectlngs-trips which, when the body. is securedl to the plug, will make proper contact with th'e'respective plug terminals,V and with either or both sockets secured in place proper contact with said parts.
in the' body may be, and preferably.v is 'f'la tachably secured to said body and remov- 10 shape corres onding with the sections -con'- able therefrom. Yindependently of one antour of the Ibody so as to secure the same other'. in proper position at all times. y AIn testimolywhereofl ax my signature 5 I claim v v v y in presence o wo witnesses.
'In avplural lam l socket the combination A LOUIE H. FIGGE.' with a plug of a Ibody detachabl secured Witnesses: thereto, -a plurality of lamp soc ets, and JOSHUA D. GILBERT, socket casngs carrying said sockets, and de'- J OSEPHv H. FIGGE.
