Application filed November 6, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ From, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Fran cisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Fasteners and Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to the subject of wire fences, and the principal object of the same is to provide novel means whereby the wires of a fence may be held in adjustable and detachable engagement with the posts of the fence.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features of the same are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawing, whenein Figure 1 is perspective view of a portion of a wire feiice showing one of the posts thereof equipped with the improved wire supports. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the wire supports. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 33, Fig. 1. Fig. l is a vertical fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line l4:, Fig. 1.
Referring to said drawings by numerals, l designates a fence post which may be of the T-shape shown, or any other preferred or convenient shape, and 2 designates the wire strands of the fence which are supported by said posts.
The improved wire support forming the subject-matter of this invention is composed primarily of a flat plate 3, the ends 4 of which are inturned to form hooks which engage over the longitudinal edges of the post. Set screws 5 pass through said plate and bear against the post so that the inturned ends 4 will be clamped to the post, as indicated in Fig. 3.

An upper flat lip 6 projects laterally from. the center of the upper edge of said plate 3, and parallel with the same a similar lip 7 projects from the lower edge portion of said plate. The upper lip 6 is provided with a transverse opening 8 adjacent its outer end through which a set screw 9 projects. The lower lip 7 has a wire-holding groove 10 formed across its upper surface adjacent its outer end, said groove being in alinement with the opening 8 of the lip 6.
The lip 7 is provided on each side of the groove 10 between the sides of said lip with a lug 11, located with reference to the depending end of the set screw 9 so that they will serve as stops for the end of the set screw 9 when it is clamping a wire in the groove 10 to prevent the wire in said groove from being flattened or crushed, the screw 9 firmly clamping said wire which projects slightly above said groove.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the plates may be adjusted longitudinally of the post by means of the clamping screws 5, and that by means of the clamping screw 9 of the lip 6, a wire strand may be rigidly held to the groove 10 of the lower lip 7.
What I claim as my invention is In a device of the character described, the combination with a post, of a wire-clamping supporting device carried by said post, said device comprising a surrounding body embodying a primary body-portion having at its ends angle-end engaging-portions, said body-portion provided at its center with rearwardlyextending parallel lips, projecting from the body portion, said body-portion being provided at opposite sides of said lips with threaded apertures, a pair of bolts threaded in said apertures and adapted to engage the post near opposite edges thereof for clamping the device in an adjustable position thereon, the lower lip being provided with a transverse groove near its outer end in its upper surface and with parallel vertical limiting lugs on each side of said groove, the upper lip being provided with a threaded aperture directly above the space between the lugs, and a bolt threaded into In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my the aperture of said upper lip and adapted signature in presence of two Witnesses.
