v Asa new article of. manufacture, a ladle .comprismg'a forammous member, a supv j metrically" opposite flanges Lenin To all whom itmay concern:
-Be it known that I, ALFRED E. JOHNSO 'a" citizen of the'United States ofi-\111eriea,- residing at Racine, in' the county of RacineandState of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ladles, of .wh'ich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ladlesnandthe object of the invention is to provide'an article of this character which willfacilitate the handling of'eggs in removing them' from boiling water. A still further object of the invention is to rovide a ladle of this character wherein a oraminous body or bottom-forming member is detachablgc engagedwith a support so that after such bottom has become worn it may be replaced by a new one at a minimum cost. In the drawing, forming a portion of this 7 specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the sev-. eral views Figure 1 is'a' detail longitudin'al section through my improved ladle. Fig.1 2 is a detail perspective view of the r'el-versesection' taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1" The ladle consists of a supporting rin 1 to which is secured the lower end of a ro 2. This rod extends npwardl at an anglefrom. the ring audit is tl'i'reade as shownlfor eni ga ement' in" a correspondin'ly threaded soc wt 4 which is seated int e handle 5. j This socket is formed integral with a ferrule 6 which fits over one end of the handle, as
clearly shown in Fig. 1 of'the drawing; curved bottom or body-forming mem- 5 her '7 of foraminous material 'is' detachably engaged with the supporting ring 1. This bottom-forming member haS- its ed e .portion folded overthe ring 1 and to .110 d such member operatively applied to the ring, I provide a retaining or clamping'element8 which" is ofsplit-ring-forin and of inverted 9 which straddle Specification 'of Letters Patent. Application filed July 28, 1910., Serial No. 573,380..
1 taining will enable the operator to conveniently rewhich are bent under the saic her and onto the opposite portion of the said U- form in transverse section to provide dia-' the ring, asc learly disclosed in Fig. 1 of the drawingflTheinner. flange of the said re- [STATES PATENT onmoE.

element is formed to provide aseries of locking. tongues 10 which extend through the foraminous bottom-formlng member at.
. points immediately beneath the .sup orting ring 1. These tongues are bent into ocking' engagement with the-opposite flange of the. retaining element, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The construction of 'the device disclosed herein is extremely simple, it may be manufactured at a minimum cost and in useit move the egg from the boiling water with- I out subj ecting the hands to the rising steam.
' The retaining element 8 is detachably securedto the ring 1 and when the bottomforming member 7 becomes worn it maybe conveniently removed and replaced by a new 3 one at .a very little cost.
' The construction of the split-ring member for retaining the bottom 7 to the r1ng-1 is such that these elements may be effectively secured together withoutresorting to the use of solder or equivalent'permanent fastening means. v V
I claim:
split ring, the suit split ring having its end pOl'tlODS spaced apart and exposing a portlon of the supporting ring, and a handle having one ofitsends securedto the exposed 1 portion of the said sup )orting ring.
In testimon whereo I aflix my signature in presenceo twowitnesses.
