WATER-GAGE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J osnrn J. MEN- vILLn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Houma, in the parish of Terrebonne and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tater-Gages, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to water gages espeoially adapted for use in connection with radiators of motor vehicles, and the prinoipal object of the same is to provide a novel casing for the sight tube which is provided with a reflecting surface that will reflect the light rays from the side lamps of motor vehicles onto the sight tube so that said tube can be readily inspected from the chauffeurs seat.

In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a radiator showing the improved gage attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the gage. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3, Fig. 2.

The improved gage comprises a housing 1 that is open at two adjacent sides and the interior is rounded and polished or otherwise treated to provide a reflecting surface 2. The housing 1 is supported in a vertical. posit-ion adjacent one corner of the front end of a radiator 3 by means of the upper and lower brackets 4 and 5 which retain the housing in position so that one open side is closed by the radiator and the other open side is in a position facing the chauit'eurs seat.

Interiorly, the housing 1 is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

upper and lower lugs 6 in which the ends of the sight tube 7 are mounted. Jam nuts 8 are employed for clamping the tube 7 to said lugs. A pipe 9 places the lower portion of tube 7 in communicationwith the radiator, said pipe being controlled by a valve 10, so that when necessary or desirable Water can be cut-01f from said tube 7. A pet cook 11 communicates with the lower end of tube 7 so that said tube can be drained, and a similar cook 12 communicates with the upper end of said tube to permit air to escape when filling the radiator with water. The brackets 4 and 5 are fastened to the housing and the radiator by screws or detachable fasteners so that said housing can be readily removed from the radiator.

It will be seen from the foregoing that the improved gage is so constructed that in daylight, the same is at all times visible from the seat, and at night, the rays from the side lights will illuminate the gage so that it also is visible from the seat.

What I claim as my invention is 1. A gage comprising a housing provided with a reflecting inner surface, upper and lower lugs within said housing, a sight tube within said housing, means for clamping said tube to said lugs, means whereby water may be drained from said tube, and means foll;e controlling the escape of air from said tu 2. In combination with a radiator, a gage housing having open adjacent sides one of which is closed by said radiator, said housing being provided with an inner reflecting surface, a si ht tube within said housing, and means for detachably fastening said housing to said radiator.
