PAINT-BUCKET HOLDER.

To all whom it 'may concern:

Be it known that I, AN'roN ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented a new and useful Paint-Bucket Holder, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of the present invention to provide an improved paint bucket holder such as is designed for use in supporting a. paint bucket upon a slanting root' or upon the vertical wall of a wooden building being painted and the invention aims, primarily, to so construct the device that it may be disposed upon a roof or wall in position to support a paint bucket, without the use of independent securing devices and without noticeably defacing the said roof or wall. Also the invention aims to provide a device of this character'which will be compact, light in weight, and convenient to carry from place to place.

Further the invention aims to so construct the device that it will embody a frame and a bucket supporting basket so arranged in the frame that while it will support the bucket in upright position regardless of the inclination of the roof or the fact that the device is mounted upon a building wall, will be capable of being swung so that when there is but little paint in the bucket, the bucket may be so tilted that whatever small quantity of paint there is, may be more readily taken up on the paint brush than would be possible it' the quantity covered a comparatively large area o1 the entire bottom of the bucket.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention'consists in the general arrangement and construction of parts shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,-

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken therethrough in a plane transversely at one side of the device.

In the drawings the device is illustrated as embodying a frame and this frame includes side members having each a long arm indicated by the numeral 5 and a shorter arm, indicated by the numeral 6, the arms being integral and being extended preferably at right angles with respect to each other. The extremities of the arms 5 and 6 are cut at an angle so as to afford sharp corners or spurs 7 designed to be embedded to a greater or less degree in the material of the rootl or building wall whereby the device will be held against slipping down an inclined roof or falling from a vertical building wall.

The side members of the :trame of the device are so arranged that their angles will be presented uppermost and the longer arms 5 will extend in a general downward direction, whereas the arms 6, on an ordinary slanting roof, will be nearly horizontal. The said side members are connected, adjacent the lower ends of their arms 5 by cross bars, indicated by the numeral 8, and preferably two in number, although one or more than two may be employed, if desired, and a cross bar 9 connects the arms 6 of the said side members adjacent their free extremities, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of t-he drawings. Also, in order to relatively brace the arms of the side members, there are provided bars 10, one secured at each of its ends to each of the arms of the respective side member.

The several elements above described constitute the frame of the device and it is in this frame that the bucket supporting basket is mounted.

The bucket supporting basket above referred to includes in its structure an annulus 11 provided at diametrically opposite points with lateral projecting studs 12 which are pivotally engaged through the angles of the side members, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, it being understood that the annulus 11, is by reason of such engagement of the studs through the side members, supported for swinging movement between these said members. The basket of the device further includes bucket supporting members, each of which is in the form of a bar bent to afford a bottom or connecting portion 13 and upstanding side portions 14 which at their upper ends are bent, as at 15, to engage with the upper edge of the annulus 11, they being secured by suitable rivets 16 to the said annulus. Preferably'two of these members are provided for arrangement in vertical planes at right angles so that their bottom or connecting portions 13 intersect the said portions being secured together, as at 17, at the point of intersection.

It will now be readily understood that a paint bucket of any ordinary size may be disposed within the basket of the device and that it will be normally supported in an up right position, inasmuch as the basket itself will normally assume such position, owing to the fact that it is supported to swing within the frame. It will, however, be understood, as before stated, that when there `is but little paint in a bucket supported in the basket, this paint may be caused to flow to cover a less area than'the entire bottom of the bucket by tilting the basket to a greater or less degree.

In order that the device may be conveniently carried fromplace to place, there is provided a wire handle or bail 18- similar to an ordinary bucket bail and this bail is connected at its extremities pivotally with the studs 12.

It will be readily understood that the use of the device is not confined to the support of paint buckets but that on the other hand a bucket without a handle may be readily carried from piace to place by using the device and furthermore a bucket or box containing nails or in fact any other like article may be supported by the device upon a slanting roof or like surface of almost any character.

What is claimed is:

In a device of the class described, a frame comprising side members having angularly disposed legs formed at their lower ends with spurs, each member being formed at its upper end with an opening, braces connecting the legs, a bucket holding frame including an annulus, studs upon the annulus at diametrically opposite points, said studs fitting pivotally through said openings, and a handle comprising a length of wire secured at its ends to the studs outwardly of the said side members whereby to hold said members against separation at their upper ends.
