Be it known that I, JERRY M. TnoMnLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highgate Center, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Extension VVindow-Shade and Curtain-Rod Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in combined curtain and window shade holders, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character -which has its main or body portion constructed of a single piece of suitable metal, and which is provided with a shade holder engaging the tongue which can be easily and quickly adjusted upon the body and se curely retained in said adjusted position.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully set forth and especially referred to in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification :Figure 1 is a top plan view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, the same being applied to a window casing. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device detached. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a top plan view, parts being broken away to more clearly illustrate the details of the device. Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view upon the line 6-6 of Fig. Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional view upon the line 7'7 of Fig. 3.

The body of the improved device is constructed of a single strip of suitable metal and is formed so as to comprise a substantially rectangular casing.

The numeral 1 designates the back plate of the device. This plate has its forward portion provided with a projection in which is formed a perforation, and the opposite end of the said plate 1 is rounded so as to provide a semi-cylindrical depression which may be termed an eye 4. The plate is then continued in a spaced parallel relation with its back portion 1 and the extremities of the plate opposite to that provided by the perforation formed upon the plate 1 is bent in substantially an L shaped manner so as to form a longitudinal ear 7 having a perforation 8, which alines with the perforation in the projecting portion of the rear plate 1,

Both of said perforations are adapted for the reception of a headed threaded element 9 whereby the device may be fixed substantially upon the sill of a window.

The front portion of the device is provided with a plurality of spaced vertical extending slots 6, and the upper and lower edges of the forward plate are bent rearwardly, and from thence forwardly upon each other to provide the top and bottom of the device, as well as the substantially longitudinally extending channels 2 and 3 of the device.

It is to be understood that the device is to be constructed of some bendable and resilient material, and the outer lips or portions provided by the channels 2 and 3 are adapted to exert a pressure toward the top and bottom of the device.

The rear plate 1 has its body formed with a plurality of substantial key hole slots 10 and these slots are also adapted to receive a retaining element 11 when the front of the device is forced away from the rear plate 1 thereof so as to allow space for the insertion of a screw driver, hammer or the like.

The numeral 14 designates the curtain supporting bracket. This bracket 145 comprises a body member 15 and has its u per extremity provided with suitable perforations or openings which are adapted to receive the pintles or axles of the shade bracket 17. The bracket members are also constructed of resilient material and the same have their upper and lower extremities adjacent their rear edges provided with curved cars 18 while integrally formed upon the brackets and positioned central of said ears are tongues 19. These tongues 19 are parallel with the body and are adapted to enter within the slots or cut-away portions 6 of the device, while the ears 18 are adapted to engage between the top and bottom and the over and underlying members forming the tongues 2 and 3 and to be effectively and securely retained in any adjusted position in relation to the openings.

It will be noted that the eye 4 is adapted for the reception of a suitable rod 12 to which the curtain pole 13 is attached.

Having thus described the invention what I claim as new is:-

1. In a device for the purpose set forth, a combined window shade and rod support ing bracket constructed of a single piece of bendable material and comprising a substantially rectangular structure, the device being provided upon one of its ends with openings adapted for the reception of a resilient element, the opposite end of the device being formed with an eye, the face of the device being provided with a plurality of spaced openings, the top and bottom of the device being formed with channels, each of said channels opening at the face of the device provided by the cut-away portion, the upper walls provided by each of the channels adapted to exert a pressure toward the upper and lower edges of the device, and a bracket member adapted to engage both the cutaway portions and within the channels of the device.

2. In a device for the purpose set forth, a back plate, said back plate being curved to form an eye and extended to form the face of the device, means for securing the face to the back plate, the face being'provided with a plurality of spaced vertical extending slots, the longitudinal edges of the face being bent rearwardly and forwardly to provide channels, and a curtain pole supporting bracket adapted to engage the vertical slots and the channels.

In a device for the purpose set forth, constructed of a single piece of metal forming a back plate, said back plate having one of its ends provided with an opening and its body provided with a plurality of key hole openings, the back plate'having its opposite end bent to provide an eye and being extended forwardly over the back plate and adapted to lie in spaced relation therewith, this spaced portion having one of its ends oifset and provided with an opening alining with the opening of the back plate, said wall or face being provided with a plurality of spaced vertical extending slits, the longitudinal edges of the face being bent rearwardly over the longitudinal edges of the back plate and from thence bent forwardly over themselves to provide channels, a curtain supporting bracket, said bracket having its upper rear portion slit adjacent its edges to form ears, and a tongue between the ears, said ears being adapted to engage one of the cutaway portions of the face and adapted to engage within the channels, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
