7 UNITED was PATE CE. I I i sin-meafsraucruaa To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHANDN Sorn'i'r'rn, a
' subject of the" King of Prussia, residing at 476 J iischkenthalerweg, Langfuhr, near Danzig, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Balloon Structures;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,.clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompa'nying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
' fill the spaces between them, the entire structurebeing assembled within astifiened hull or cover,
partial transverse section of one-half Referring to the drawings in which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal central section of a balloon made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a section taken 'onthe line av-y of Fig. 1. I Fig. 3 'is an enlarged o a balloon. Fig. {i is an enlarged longitudinal section shor'vinga portionjof-two balloon elements. Fig. 5 is a detail partial"cross-sect'ional view, on a larger scale, of the outer casing and the tension bands and Fig. 6 is a detail partial longitudinal sectionof the parts shown in Fig.- 5. The inflatable'elements of the balloon are contained Within. an outer casing having a double wall comprising an-outer wall Hand an inner wall H stretched respectively over" and underlongitudinal strips or carriers L of aluminium, Wood or thin steel, corre- Y sponding in shape to the curvature of the balloon-casing and mounted edgewise thereto, (Figs. 5 and 6) thereby maintaining the inner and outer wall H and Hof the cas-- ing spaced :lfrom one another to form an inclosing casing for the inflatable elementscontaining between its inner and outer layer an air space, which air space serves as an insulating medium for protecting the inflatable elements contained within the casing I Specification of Letters i ateilti' Apphca'tinn fl-led July 12, 1909. Serial No. 507,147..
IP ateiited A ir. 4 119111- from externalftemperature influence The casing so formed'oontains a number of-infiatable elements" preferably but not necessarily, independent of one another and here shown as; spherical balloons, -B- varying in diameter in accordance with the shape of the casing surrounding them and'between these balloon elementsB and the. casing are a number of inflatable ring like elements B of suitable cross section, corresponding to the shape of the space R here shown as substantially triangular in section.- These ring elements may be .of'anv other desired geometrical shape in section as for example, elliptical or circular. The'longitudinal ribs L are mounted on transverse rings GT, Gr
. 12 (Figs 3 d4). which are perpendiclr' lar to the longitudinal axis of the entire balloon. These' circular ribs G" to G12 are reinfo'rced preferably by tension bands S and S. To the longitudinal carriers L eyes 0 are mounted. To the latter the tension bands S are attached, which c nnect with 'ring shaped pipe U embracing t e same and lead ing to another eye 0 again in the manner shown in Figs. 5 and 6. The ring U surrounds the contact point of adjoining inflatable spherical members Bin such a manner that the bands 8' are tangent to the inflatable the inclos'ed' inflatable balloon element B.
elements contained therein and an auxiliary.
lattice casing for each inflatable spherical balloon element.
3. The combination with anouter casing a plurality of spherical inflatableba'lloon elements contained therein. an auxlhary lattice casing for each inflatable spherical ball lon element, and each lattice casing composed of a plurality of cone frusta shaped elements.
4. The combination with an outer casing; of a plurality of,s herical inflatable balloon elements containe therein and an auxiliary latticed casing for each element and connected to the oasing; said lattice casing formed of anfassemblage of cone-frustashaped elements thereby forming annular Spaces between the casing and said frusta at the contact points of the spherical elements, and annularinflatable. elements contained in said spaces.
5. The combination with an outer casing 7 comprising an inner and an outer Wall spaced apart by longitudinal I-shaped stiltening members, of a plurality of inflatable spherical balloon elements contained in said casing, and an auxiliary latticed casing for 20 each element attached to said stifiening members.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed any name in presence of two subscribing witnesses JoHAN'NsoHoTTE.
