As the coal is natusivc, there is a hopper l and sprocket wheels 2 2 carrying an endless chain-grate consisting of links 3 3 flfu'; which project T-pieces 4 l to which on one side of each is attached an angle piece 5, which, in conjunction with the piece 4 on the link next in order, forrns the top or outer face of a transverse an' box when traveling horizontally. In the construction illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 depending plates 4 4' are fastened to or form part of the links and pass over a fixed plate 14 while carrying the fuel for ward. The chain-grate and depending plates form with the fixed plate transverse airboxes which are carried forward with the rate. The air inlets to the boxes thus ormed are governed as before described.
