To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. FoGELsoNe, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Dee, in the county of Hood River and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Damper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to draft regulators, and more particularly to dampers for furnaces and the like, and has for an object to provide a damper adapted to automatically regulate the draft for a furnace or stove.
For the purpose mentioned use is made of a closure dependent from a knife edge, and means on the closure for adjusting the angle of dependence of the closure or for removably securing the closure to a flue or like member.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of my device and taken on the line 11 in Fig. 2, the dotted lines serving to illustrate various positions of the damper; Fig. 2 is a face view of my invention with parts broken away to disclose the underlying structure; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view showing how the closure of my device is mounted.
Referring to the views, a fine 10 is provided in a stove 11, and mounted in the upper side of the flue is a sliding damper 12. The end of the fine 10 is preferably disposed at an angle, and bearings 13 are provided at the upper end of the same. A knife edge 1 1 is mounted in the bearings 18, and a closure 15 is mounted to depend from the knife edge 14 as shown in Fig. 2. A locking member or bar 16 is pivotally mounted on the closure 15 by a pin 17, and is provided with a knob 18, the lower end of the locking bar being adapted to engage the fine 10 at 19, when 1t is desired to secure the closure 15.
When it is desired to regulate the heat, for a minimum draft, the bar 16 is moved into an upright position as shown in the dotted lines at a in Fig. 1. When the bar is in this position the weight of the same is nearest the fulcrum of the closure 15, thus placing the weight approximately on the Vertical axis of the closure. When a maximum draft is required, the bar is turned downwardly to the position shown in the dotted lines at b, and the closure will move outwardly, thus enlarging the opening of the flue 10. To shut ofi" the draft, the closure is moved inwardly, so that the lower end of the closure engages the lower end of the flue, and the closure is then secured to the flue by the bar 16 engaging the flue 10 at 19, as has been mentioned heretofore.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that an efiicient damper is provided, capable of easily regulating the amount of draft required for the fire in the stove; and although I have shown a particular form of my device in the drawings for the purpose of describing the same, it will be understood that the scope of my invention is fully disclosed in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A damper comprising a closure adapted to depend from a flue, a weighted rotatable locking bar mounted on the closure for changing the center of gravity of the closure, whereby the same depends in different angular adjustments, and a handle on the locking bar, for removably securing the same to a. fine.
