IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINE PQR DRESSING FELLOES. l

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY KURTZ, of Washington, in the county of Washington, and District of Columbia, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Felice-Dressing Machines; and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the i same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a plan or top view of the machine, .showing the two lcutting-disk wheelson one shaft; the two tables with their adjustable clamp-carriages, for holding the felloes to be dressed truly, both on the inside and outside of the circle.

' The object of my invention is to save a large amount of time and hand-labor in fitting theinside and outside ofthe rims of wheels for gun-carriages, caissons, armywagons, and for other vehicles, and dress the` felloes more truly than they can be done in any ordinary manner.

My invention consists in the construction of the sunken or concave planing-disk D, with its flange and cutters, as arranged and combined with the adjustable clamp-carriage H, the adjustablesegment rail-guide f f, and the supporting-tables E, for dressing the inner circle of felloes; and also in the arrangement of the cutting-disk C on Athe same shaft, the clamping-car, vriage K, and table, for dressing the reverse or outer lcircle of the felloe, thereby doubling the capacity of the machine for performing a certain amount of work in a given time. 1/ v To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it more invdetail.

The sunken or concave planing-disk D has a rightangled projecting i'lange, d d, on the outer edge of which the series'of cutter-bits e e is secured in the same manner as on the iiange O, so that there will be iitted to run, being driven by herein specilied.

The guide-track or circle ff is made to be adjusted to and fromN the concave planing-disk D, by having slits g g in the table E, and bolts, with set-screws, to hold it in place.

The truck or carriage H, in which thc felloe F is held forI dressing the inside of the circle, has also an adjustable segment, with a groove to tit the guidecircle ff, which is held by bolts thumb-nuts to the slits h h, in a similar manner, In the-truck H, which is also provided with truck or friction-rollers i 'i i on its under side, so as to operate freely on the track.

The carriage H is provided with two clamps I I and hand-screws J J, to hold the felloe tirmly in its place against screw-steps j j, in the recess of the clamps I I, so that the width of the fellocs F can be adjusted to a ninety, and every one dressed will be' exact and uniform.' i i The carriage K, for clamping and dressingthe 4outer circle of the felloe F, holds it in the same manner as the carriage H, and is provided with a slit, It, in both the carriage and the table E, to which it is pivioted, so

that it can be readily -and nicely adj usted to describe ,any circle desired,'and held by bolts and thumb-nuts l l in the same manner.

The advantages of` my machine, as will readily be seen, are that thecutters work true to the face of the circle, so that both edges of the felloe will be square with the face, and any number' ofthe sections dressed by my machine will be exactly alike, and form a more perfect rim to a wheel than they can by any other process; and, furthermore,the placing of the two cut- .ting-disks to operate on one shaft, fully doubles the facility of doing the work, 'as the felloe is changed from one truck or carriage to the other, thus avoiding rehandling. i .What I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- ,1. The arrangement of the sunken or concave cutting-disk D, the adjustable clamp-carriage H, the segment-guide f f, and supporting-table E, constructed and operating in the manner as and for the purposes 2.
