To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED BERCI-IEM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sleeping-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in sleeping cabinets for supplying fresh air to a person when sleeping for treating lung diseases of all kinds without reducing the temperature of the room in which the person is sleeping to any extent.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cabinet which can be placed in a suitable opening formed in the wall of the room or in the window, in such a manner that when the bed is placed in position adj acent the same, the head of the person will be within the cabinet whereby the person will be supplied with fresh air.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cabinet with means for regulating the supply of air to the same, said means comprising a shutter which is operated by suitable means whereby the slats can be adjusted in such a manner that the supply of air to the cabinet will be regulated, and at the same time all danger of rain or snow entering the cabinet is prevented.
Another object of my invention, is to pro vide a cabinet with a flexible air tight apron adapted to extend down onto the chest of a person so as to completely inclose the body of the person in order to prevent the air from escaping into the room.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a cabinet with a reticulated pillow support on which the persons head is adapted to rest when in a position within the cabinet, in such a manner that air will circulate around the pillow so as to supply air to the person.
- With these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification :Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of my improved cabinet. Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a casing A which is formed of any suitable material having a front portion A which is adapted to extend out beyond the wall or window frame as clearly shown, and is provided with a shutter B, the slats B of which are operated by a rod B so as to adjust the position. of the slats in order to regulate the supply of air. The sides of the portion A are cutaway so as to allow air to enter the same, and the top is also cutaway in order to allow the foul air to escape from the casing. A removable screen G is arranged within the casing to the rear of the shutter so as to prevent insects from entering the casing.
The casing has a rearwardly extending portion A provided with a hinged lid F having a glass panel. Connected to the edges of the rearwardly extending portion by clamps G is a flexible apron H which is formed of some suitable air tight material having a removable lining I, which can be removed therefrom and washed. The apron is adapted to be drawn around the chest of the person under the covers so as to prevent the air from escaping into the room, and when in use a bed is placed adjacent the cabinet in such a manner when a person is lying upon the same, the head will extend into the cabinet as clearly shown so that plenty of fresh air will be supplied to the person at all times.
Arranged within the cabinet is a reticulated pillow support J on which the pillow K is adapted to be placed, said support being raised above the bottom of the cabinet in such a manner that air will circulate up around the pillow in order to supply fresh air to the head of the person, and it will be seen that the air entering the casing passes up around the head of the person, and the foul air passes up out of the top of the casing and the sides.
That I claim is 2-.-
1. A sleeping cabinet comprising a casing having open sides and a shutter at its outer end, a screen arranged within said cabinet to the rear of said shutter, a reticulated pillow support mounted in said cabinet, and an apron adjustably secured to the inner end of said cabinet having a removable linlng.
2. A sleeping cabinet comprising a casing having a shutter at its outer end provided with adjustable slats, an apronarranged at the inner end of said cabinet, a hinged lid for closing the upper portion of said cabinet, a screen arranged Within said cabinet to the rear of said shutter, said cabinet being provided with cut-away portions in its sides at its outer end, and a reticulated pillow support arranged in said cabinet.
