THEODORE H. MONTAGUE, OF BLUE ISLAND, ILLINOIS.
ORTHODONTIA APPARATUS.
Original application filed December 3, 1909, Serial No. 531,161.
Serial No. 539,987.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEoDoRE H. Moivfrncim, a citizen of the United States, residing at 284 Western avenue, Blue Island, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful. Improvement in Orthodontia Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in orthodontia apparatus, and is fully described and explained in the specification and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a plan view of my improved apparat-us showing the same in the position which itoccupies in use upon a set of teeth; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing such parts of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, as embody the essential features of my invention; Fig. 3 is a radial section through the sleeve and anchor band.
Referring to the drawings, A is an anchor band of any desired form which is adapted to be attached to one of the teeth in the usual manner. This anchor band has projecting from one side thereof an ear c perforated in a line parallel to the axis of the anchor band, as illustrated. Above this ear a is a longitudinally perforated sleeve B to which is attached a downwardly extending pin b which runs through the ear a and is held in place therein by means of a nut b1. This sleeve is adapted to receive the tension wire which is of usual form and performs its accustomed function in the straightening of the teeth.
It will be seen from the foregoing description of construction that the device is so arranged that its sleeve can be oscillated about its axis, that is, it can oscillate in a plane transverse to. the axis of the tooth.
The form of construction herein shown is desirable for use in orthodontia, because in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 1911.
Divided and this application filed January many cases the tooth to which the anchor band is applied may move slightly thereby making an adjustment of the anchor band upon the tooth necessary unless some flexibility be afforded between the sleeve and the anchor band suoli as is provided in my dyevice, and also because by its use no such accurate adjustment of the anchor band to t-he tooth is necessary as in the oase of dovices where the anchor band is rigidly attached to the sleeve.
This application is a division of an application filed by me December 3rd, 1909, Serial Number 531,161, this being one of two specilic forms shown in that application. This device and the other device are `both broadly claimed in said application, this applicat-ion covering its own forms specifically.
I realize that considerable variation is pos,- sible in the details of construction of my improved device, without departing from the spirit ofmy invention, and I do not intend, therefore, to limit myself to the specific form herein shown and described.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Lett-ers Patent, is
l. In an orthodontia apparatus, an anchor band, a laterally project-ing ear upon the same, and a sleeve pivoted to said ear to swing in the horizontal plane of the anchor tooth'.
2. In an orthodontia apparatus, an anchor band adapted to be attached to a tooth, a laterally projecting ear upon said band, a sleeve, and a projecting stud upon the sleeve passing through the ear upon the anchor band to afford pivotal connection between the same to permit the sleeve to swing in the horizontal plane of the anchor tube.
