- parts which-will be hereinafter fully de- To all whom it/nary concern."- I
v amass H. s'ronnann on Application filed September itiienof the United States, residing at Los Gatos, 1n the county of Santa Clara and .Be' it known that I, JAMES H. S'ronmnn, a 5
:State of California,'liave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools, of which the follo ii'ing is a'spe i- 'fication..
My invention relates-to an' improvement 1n combmatlon tools, and the-ob ect '15 to pro- .vide more particularly a combined square,
bevel, andcompass tool. 'The'blades are so -three-sided man-sided, figures.
. connected to each .otherthat it may "be used.
as" aitry-squar'e, miter cutter, and compass. It is alsojca'pable-I'ofsuch adjustments 'for indicatinggithe ibevels' and miters that maybe "removed and, cut? a p yg m l' l The inventionconsi'sts' of certain .r'i'ovel' fea tures of: construct on and combinations of scribed and pointed out in the claims,
' In the accompanying drawings-Figures '1 and 2 are views takenfrom opposite sides,
showing the parts differently at justed Fig.-
' 3 is a view showing'allof the members as sembled in a small compass, and .Flg. 4 181 a detailed sectional view showing the manner of-connecting one of the blades to the-qu'ad-' rant portion of the other blade.
' A, represents one of the blades which is -provided with a quadrant head 1 at one end having a degree scale of a half circle thereon, and Bis the other blade, which is pivotally connected to the blade A at the quadrant head 1 by a screw threaded stud 2 passing' through the head 1. A thumb nut .3 and screw-threaded stud 2 connect blade A to the head 1. Holes -5 are formed in the quadrant head at the degree points of the half circle, and anopenin gb'is formed in one end of'the blade B, which is adapted to register with the openings 5 in the quadrant head. A latch 81s mounted on the'stud 2 and is held upon-the quadrant head by the thumb nut '3.' Thelatchis provided with a lug 9 which. is adapted to pass through-the. openings 5 in thequadraut head through the opening 6 in the blade B for forming a square or mitercut, A knobf10 is formed on V the latch whereby the lug can be removed from the openings for releasing the blade B. The ends of the blades A and Bare beveled at an angle of and tapered to ,sharp.

movement whereby they can be used as a compass;
- Patented Mar. 7, 1911.
'On the under side 'of the quadrant head a movedout of engagement with the openings 5 and the blades A and B arecapable of free scale is formed for'cutting'polygon miters' i from three-sided to l0sided figures. Thef blade B 'is'notched as at 15 and by bringing the notched edge to any point on the scale that "miter can beineasured and cut. The thumb screw 3 is tightened to hold the blade at that point upon the scale so that the exact measurement can be obtained. In order to get the angle fora five-sided polygonal miter, the edge of the notch 15. is brought toione-of the points 5 on the scale.
An angle blade G is provided with an elongated 'slot 16 through which extends a 'stud' 17 on theblade A. A thumb nut 18 is received upon the'stud for holding the angle blade in its different adjustments for obtaining any 'bevel and is used when the miter uated along both-edges and the blade B is.
square-isforined. The angle blade is grad-' raduated on both sides. 'lhe'anglet-bladc is adapted to be swung .in either direction at an angle of 45. Stops or flanges'QO and 21 are formed 011 the blade A for retaining the blades B and C in proper position when.
i the parts are folded into small compass.
The stops also limit the movement of the blade B. The latch 8 is adapted to engage the blade B bythe lug passing through the opening in the zero point and-holding the' blade in propel position when the parts are brought together or formed into a small ass.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might beresorted toin the form and arrangementof the. several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and hence I do not wish to belimiteditoth'e e act construction herein set forth, but:- V
- Having ,fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is! y 1. A' combination tool comprising a blade having a quadrant head thereon and pro- \{ided uith a scale of graduations thereon, a secondary blade pivoted to the quadrant head said blade and uadrant head havin registerable holes therein, and a stud pivotall connectiin the blades to 'ether of a,
I blades in an adjusted position, one'end of pivotal point.' I 2.-A combination tool comprising a blade "said latch held on'the stud, and a nut adapted to screw on the stud whereby to'hold the. latch and the blades together at a common having a quadrant head thereon and provided with a scaleof .graduations thereon,
a secondary blade pivoted to the quadrant head, said blade and quadranthead having registera-ble holes therein, and a stud pivotally connecting the blades together, of a latch having a lug adapted to enter said holes whenregistered-whereby to lock the blades in an adjusted position, one end of said latch held on'the' stud, and a nut adapted to screw on the stud whereby to hold the latch and the blades together at a common pivotal point, an-angle blade having an elongated slot therein, a stud on one of the first-mentioned blades passing through said elongated slot, and a thumb-nut on the stud v 3. A combination .tool comprising a "blade having a quadrant head thereon and provided with a scale of graduations thereon, a secondary blade pivoted to the ,quadrant head, said blade and quadrant head having registerable holestherein, and a stud pivotally'connecting the blades together, of a latch having a lug-adapted to enter said holes when registered, whereby to lock the blades in an adjusted position, one end of, said latchheld onthe stud, and a nut adapted to screw on the stud whereby to hold the i latch and the blades together at a common pivotal point, an angle blade having an elongated slot therein, a stud on one of the first-mentioned blades passingthrough said elongated slot, and a thumb-nuton the stud,-
said first-named blades having stops on their edges for retaining the bladesin properpo-- ;sit10n when the partsare folded-into small ing in the quadrant head and .theopening in the secondary blade for locking the blade to the head for forming the desired angle, an
angle blade. mounted on the first-named blade, and means for adjustably support ing the angle blade upon the first-named blade. 4
In testimony whereof I aflix m'y signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
