Be it known that I, FRANK E. SMITH, citizen of the United States, residing at San Bruno,y in the count-y of San Mateo and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in l/Vaterproof Lock-Scams for Roofing-Paper, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to" construct and use the same. I
My invention relates to the art of roofing with paper, and has for its object to provide novel means for rendering the seams of paper roofing water-proof.
I attain my object by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawing of which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of my device in place. Fig. 2 is a Sectional view of a modied form for use along the outer edges'of paper roofing. Fig. '3 is a sectional View of my device in position ready to receiveran adjoining sheet of paper. Fig. 4 is a `perspective view of my device. A

In general terms my invention comprises a sheet of metal adapted to lock and protect the seams in paper roofing.
In detail 'it comprises a sheetof metal 1 -shaped to have a rearwardly projecting portion 2, a forwardly projecting portion 3, and
Y an intermediate portion 4. rl`he rearwardly projecting portion is provided with a ridge 5 placed substantially as shown in Fig. 1. The intermediate portion is provided with ridges Grand .7 and the forwardly projecting portion is provided with a ridge 8. All
the ridges are arranged vsubstantially as shown in Fig. 1, so that ridges 5 and 6 will crimp the paper 9 at the point 10 and ridges 7 and 8 will crimp the 'paperll at the point. 12, when the paper sheets are inserted in the spaces shown and the parts of my device are driven into the position shown. A nail 13 is driven between the intermediate portion, through the rearwardly projecting portion and into the roof.
The modified form of my device which is to be used around the extreme outer edges of the paper comprises an under portion 14 and a top portion 15. The 'top portion is provided with a ridge 16 which partially Patent of the United States is- In a device of the character described a water-proof locking device for the seams of roofing paper comprising a sheet of metal having a rearwardly projecting portion provided with a ridge, an intermediate portion provided with a forward ridge and a rear ridge, a'forwardly projecting portion provided with a ridge, the ridge on said rearwardly projecting portion cooperating with the rea-r ridge of the intermediate portion to crimp one of the paper sheets and a ridge on the forwardly projecting portion coperatl ing with the forward ridge of the intermediate portion to crimp the adjoining sheet.
