Specification of Letters Patent.

. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. DICKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Collinsville, in the county of Gr: yson and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Cultivator-Foot Adjuster, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cultivator toot adjuster and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts here1n after shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and etticient means for adjusting the angle of a cultivator foot piece with relation to the surface of the ground and in this way regulate the depth at which the shovel carried by the foot piece will penetrate the soil.
With this object in view the invention consists in pivotally mounting the foot piece upon the end of a beam and attaching rearwardly disposed arms to the beam. Slotted arms are pivotally connected at their forward ends with the upper portion of the foot piece and a lever is fulcrumed at the rear ends of the said slotted arms. A link operatively connects the working end of the said lever with a cross bolt connecting the rear ends of the first said arms. The cross bolt also passes transversely through the slots of the slotted arms. The said bolt together with the bolt which serves as a fulcrum for the lever is provided with clamping devices or means for binding the arms together whereby the foot piece is held after ithas been adjusted.
In the accompanying drawings :--Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cultivator foot piece adjuster. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear end elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a link used in the device.
The foot piece 1 is pivotally connected to the lower rear portion of the beam or standard 2 in any desired manner. Rearwardly disposed arms 3 are attached at their forward ends to the sides of the beam 2 in the vicinity of the end of the foot piece 1. A bolt 4 passes transversely through the rear portions of the said arms 3 and is provided at one end with a clamping nut 5 screw threaded thereon. Slotted arms 6 are pivotally connected at their forward ends to the upper portion of the foot piece 1 and are provided at intermediate points with elongated slots 7 which receive the end portions of the bolt 4. The arms 6 lie against the outer sides of the arms 3. A bolt 8 passes transversely through the rear end portions of the arms 6 and is provided with a clamping nut 9. A lever 10 (formed of two side members spaced from each other at points intermediate their ends) is fulcrumed upon the bolt 8. A U-shaped link 11 is pivoted at its end upon the end portions of the bolt 4: and the working end of the lever 9 is pivot ally connected to the intermediate portion of the said link 11. A slotted link 12 receives in its slot the intermediate portion of the bolt 8 and is located between the side members of the lever 10 and the forward end of the link 12 is pivotally mounted upon the intermediateportion of the bolt 4. Spacing sleeves 13 are located upon the bolt 4 between the ends of the link 11 and the sides of the link 12 and spacing sleeves 14 are located on the bolt 8 between the inner sides of the arms 6 and the sides of the lever 10.
Thus it will be seen that when the clamping nuts 5 and 9 are loosened and the lever 10 is swung that the arms 6 will be moved along the outer sides of the arms 3 and the slots 7 will be moved transversely across the bolt 1. This longitudinal movementof the arms 6 will swing the cultivator foot piece 1 upon its pivotal connection with the beam and when at a desired angle the nuts 5 and 9 are screwed up upon their respective bolts and thus the parts are securely clamped together and the foot piece 1 is held at its adjusted angle.
WVhile the arms have been shown and de scribed in duplicate it will be understood that the same method of adjustment may be accomplished by arranging but one 'set of arms in the manner indicated.
Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a beam and a foot piece pivotally mounted thereon an adjusting device comprising arms secured to the beam, a bolt passing transversely through the rear portions of said arms, a clamping nut screw threaded upon said bolt, slotted arms pivotally connected at their forward ends with the upper portion of the foot piece, said bolt passing through the slots in the said slotted arms, a second bolt passing transversely through the rear portions of the slotted arms, a clamping nut screw threaded upon the last said bolt, a lever fulcrumed upon the last said bolt, a link pivotally connecting the working end of said lever with the first said bolt, and a slotted link pivotally mounted upon one of the said bolts and having the other bolt passing through its slot.
2. In combination with a standard and a foot piece pivotally attached thereto an adjusting device comprising an arm fixed to the standard, a bolt passing transversely through the rear end portions of said arm, a clamping nut screw threaded upon said bolt, slotted arms pivotally connected at their forward ends with the upper portion of the foot piece, said bolt passing transversely through the slots in the said slotted arms, a second bolt passing transversely through the rear end portions of the slotted arms, a clamping nut located upon the last said bolt, a lever consisting of spaced side 20 pieces fulcrumed upon the last said bolt, a U-shaped link pivotally connected with the working end of said lever and pivotally connected at its ends with the first said bolt, a
slotted link pivotally connected with the 25 first said bolt and having its rear portion lying between the side portions of the lever,
the second mentioned bolt passing transversely through the slot in said slotted link.
