Be it known that I. Parnu D.\n.\nos. a subject of the King of l'lungary. residing at Oakdale. in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and use'tiul Improvements in Sat'ety Devices t'or Mines, ot which the 'following is a speeitiea'tion, re'terenee being had therein to the accompanying drawing'.
This invention relates to a sa't'ety deviee for mines, quarries, and umlergromnl workings, and the primary object oli the invention is the ]'n'ovision o't simple and etlieetive means for supplying' fresh air to a mine, particularly when explosions occur.
Another object oli' the invention is to vide a mine with a ventilating system insures perfect safety oit the miners, with stores or compartments containing aid to imprisoned miners.

Should the `lerce ol the explosion be such as to cause a cave-in and prevent the escape o't' the miners. the entombed miners ean seek one ot' thc stores. obtain 'atei'. sponges, and such other supplies that. may be in store, the sponges when moistened and held to the nose immediately relieving' the miners 'from such gases and 'l'lunes as may have been inhaled during the interval of the explosion and the tiine ot' locating the stores.
It is thought that the operation and utility ot' the device for saving the lives of niiners will. be apparent without further description, and while in the drawings there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention., it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof are susceptible to such Changes as fall within the scope of the aplliended claims.

In a safety device for mines, the Coinhination with a mine having an entry, rooms, and an air shatt., ot' a hood located over said air shaft, a 'tan easing in coniniunieation with said hood, a revoluble Ytan located in said easing and adapted to supply air to sad air shaft, a tlap door adapted to control the communication between said fan Casing and said hood and extending outwardly into said hood, a l'lap door earried by the top ot said hood and adapted to be opened by an up-dralft within said shalt, a 'i air supply pipe located within said niine, a pipe establishing eonnnunieation between said air supply pipe and said tan easing, and a slide Valve adapted to Control. the supply of air it'roin said tan Casing to said air supply pipe.
