Be ithnown that we, FRANK I. REMY and Bnxmnni P. Rom, of Anderson, county of Madison, andstatc of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Magneto- Eleetric Generator; and we do hereb de clare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanving drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts.
The object of th: invention is to improve the constriwthm of magnetos. chietly for the purpose of reducing the (0st of making and assembling the sfine hut also for the purpose of improving the tiperation of the parts thereof. To this end our invention enables the manufacturer to avoid the making of 48 holes, screws and taps in the construction of so simple and small a thing as a magneto.
The chief feature of the invention consists in making an integral rectangular frame open at the sides, the ends apertnred to center bearings, one at each end thereof, an arl'nature inductor shaft insertihle there-- through, and windings and an inductor therein. The pole pieces are inserted at the sides and the parts are held in place by the magnets overlapping the frame and pole pieces. Thus screws. taps and holes for them are obviated, and the inductor shaft is better centered, and the pole pieces are maintained in better relation thereto than in constructions as heretofore. made by em ploying screws or taps for holding the parts in one position.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.

In constructing a magneto as herein set forth, an integral casing 10 is provided, which includes the top-and bottom and end portions, the sides being open. The bottom is wider than the top, as shown in Fig. 3.. The ends are PlOYldGd with central openings lilte portion. which fits in the recess 12.'
Vhile assembling the. parts, these hearings are inserted through a side opening of the casing and put in place, then the windings 15 and inductor 16 are inserted in the casing. and the inductor shaft; 141s introduced through the hearings and inductor 16. This assures the absolute centering of the hearings. by reason of the recesses 12 and the disks forming a part of the bearings, and also there is a longitudinal bearing for the shaftl-t. There is no chance for the bearings to be out of alincnient or get out of alinement. for the openings 11 and recesses 12 are turned down true in the original construction and likewise the bearings 13.
After the parts above mentioned are assembled, the pole pieces 17 are inserted one on each side. These pole pieces are plates flat on the outside and centrally grooved or cut out on the inside concentric with therest upon the bottom of the casing and horse,
shoe magnets 20 are placed down over the top of the casing-10, enveloping the pole pieces 17 and resting upon the bottom of the casing 10, as shown in Fig. 3. This completes the construction without. a single screw or screw-hole. The. magnets are held in place by the casing and they hold the pole pieces snugly in position, for the pole pieces lie between. the diskslil of. the bearings and the magnets, and s ngle the disks 19 are turned true in the origins construction, and

the pole pieces will. always maintain the true relation to the inductor, and on the contrary the inductor, by reason of said bearings, will maintain the true position relative to the polepieoes and the windings 15.
What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A magneto including a casing or frame opening at the sides and the ends provided with hearing openings, bearings iiisertible in said bearing openings with a disk-like flange thereon'inside the casing, an armature and shaft in Said bearings, pole pieces within said casingbearing against the disks on said bearings, and magnets overlapping the top of the casing and said pole pieces, whereby said parts will be held in position in the casing. 2. A magneto including an integral casing or fr me having a bottom, top and ends, the bottom being Wider than the top with hearing openings in the ends and reoessesin the inner surfaces of the ends concentric with said bearing openings,bearings for each end, each bearing formed of a longitudinal portion to project through the bearing openings and a disk-like portion fitting in said recesses so as to maintain said bearings in contered position, an armature and shaft in said bearings, pole pieces in the opciiings in the sides of said casing with curved sidcs therein bearing against the disks on said bearings, and magnets overlapping the top of the ('asing and said pole picces,\\'l1ei.'eby said parts are held in proper position in the casin in vitne; whereot 'we have hereunto allixod our signatures in the presence of the Witnessm heroin named.
