' Appttuttonllve lily 1l. 1010. lertat En. 1.461.
To all whomtmay concern: ri itil secured to angle irons or beams 7 55 Be it known that I, Wxuiuiu L.A Bmw mnuiannm'r, a subpct, of Greetl Britain, und resident of Fort. l 'illiunn Ontario, Canada,
hnvo invented certsin new and useful Im-4 provements in Car-Doors; and I do hereby declare that the folluwin' is a full, clear, und exact deseription of tio invention, surh la will enable otberi skilled in the nrt to which it. appet'tain` to make and use the BRIDE.'
The invention to be hereinafter described'- relntes to box cara and more particularly to box car doors.
Broldly speaking, it comprises door per, im over head rail. means for bitingtng the door from the mil, means for nd justing the door vertieally on tta supports, retaining lates iflidably mounted on the door, Inghp aten mounted on the enr body and lduptetl to t'operato with the retaining plates to hold the door in position, and moana for moving the sliding plates to and from operative position.
In order to more clearly disclose the eon lruction, operation` and uae of the iuvention, referenfe -honld be had to the ai-eomplnyini.' drnwiog-a forming part of the present appliwition.
' Throughout the several figures or' the` drawings like reference characters designato the same parts. i
In the drawings: Fi ure 1 i l aide. elevation of the door. from t ie outside of tho ear; Fig. :t iu a view nimilur to Fig. l, with the wringing, door section rained; Fig. Il is n vertieal eine: section on line tl--tl of Fig. 2. looking in the direction of the arrow; and Fig. 4 i .i horizontal cross section on line 4wd ot' Fig?. l, looking in the direetion of the ni'imv.
'.l'lw ni'iio objeetr of thoinvention are to provide :i simpl)l eonatrueted ear door whieh may be mung outward and trnvel longitudinally ol' the ear. together with means for elaxnpinpy or lwearing tho door in operative posit ion.
Referring tothe drawings in detail, 1 indientes a oar body provided with the usual door wa) above whit-h n: mounted the support'n rait 5., Un this rail is nlidably and revo u ly mounted n henger :l from whiehv depend the linlot -t adjuntably eonneeted to platea b by'tnrn buckleii tt. .Them platin-i ,re

bo t or otherwise secured to a door 8. At the .edges of the door way are seenred verticul channel iron platea 9 adapted to eoper .te with plates vltlnlidably mounted on the door beneath the'ends of the beams 7. These e0 pivotally oonnet-ted at. their o iposite ends respeetively to the plates lt) ainl to a slide bar 11'. l ie bar ll is slidably mounted at about the center of the door and between the door mi Movement of this bar, of course, operate the linka S and causes movement of theplntcs 1t). lt is necessary, of
conne, to prevent. downward movenmnt of the bar ll bevond a certain predetermined point. Aeeordingly. a lio'ok l2 is formed on the upper end of the bur und is adapted to engage-the upper edge of the door as the barl renehes. a predetermined point. in its downwnrd moven'ient. ln its lowermont. po- 75 Hition, the liar \ill move the links 8' into alinement sind foi-eo the plates 10 to operative position. As the iur is raised, the plates lt) will be' withdrawn from beneath the ehannel iron and the door will lie free so to swing outward. ln order to raise the bnr and retraet the plates` a lever t3 haa been provided. This lover is pivoted either direetly on the door or on u stri i or barsecuxed to the door. lt in connecte b u link 14 65 to the bar tl. fitovement of the liever, therefore. elli-.eta movement of the bnr.
'lhe lower end of the door 8 may be provided witb un unxilinry opt-nin l5 closed b n plute 16.
