To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, CHARLES R. littoral- LENDORF, a .citizen ot the United States, re siding at Seattle, in the county o'l King and State of Vashingtoi'i, have invented certain new and iiscfulImprovements in ln- 'closed Fuses olf which the followinrf is a.
The invention consists in the novel cone` struction, and combination oi devices, will be hereinafter described und claimed.. In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vlongitudinal vertical section of en inclosed fuse embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3, respectively, are underside and top plan views of the yupper und lower members of the fuse. Fig. /l is a perspective view of one of the end elements such as employed inthe member illustrated in Fig. 3.
The reference numerals 5 andY t3 denote complementary parts of a. Acylindrical or prismoidal shell composed of e suitable insulating material. The ends of seid parts are respectively closed by complementary metallic cap elements und 6 severally provided with .flanges 5 und. o which. overlie the peripheral surfaces ot the respective shell parts to ii'li'ord means whereby the cap elements .may be liftedly se cured to the shell parts by cement-ing or otherwise. Integral with, or rigidly secured to, each of the cap elements 6 ere inwardly und outwardly extending tongues 7 and 8. The outer tongues 8 are adopted to be secured to the terminals ol the electric circuit wires with which the fuse to be applied. The inwardly directed tongues 7 are disposed to be in the plane oit the edges of the shell part 6 which are justin posed with the other port when united. Tongues T are provided with tlfireadedv apertures 9 for engagement with screws l0 whereby a strip 1l is detuchably secured to such tongues. The strip which thus serves to connect the tongues 7 is formed of a fusilile metal or alloy. 1Within the spaces inclosed by he respective shell end cap elements ere packings l2 and. 13 of asbestos or other refractory materiel', such :is ordinarily employed 'with inclosed fuses.
From the foregoing, it is evident that there is atl'oided two companion members euch comprised of e casing and the packing: therefor, and one of such members is furm ther equipped with tongues which are utilized for the terminal and fusible strip connections. lt is likewise evident that e fusible strip may be removed from its tongue connections by simply withdrawing the screws l() and when :mother strip is substituted it muy he as conveniently secured by replacingl .the screws. The referred to members are separably united by headed screw bolts le passing through holes rovided in the cepilanges 5 and the fillings thereof to engage in threaded. holes 16 in the cup-flanges G. The fuse device is thus seen to be readily dismembered or coupled and the replocement oit a fusible plug will1 occupy but a. little time.
The invent-ion claimed, is-

An electrical fuse comprising complementary shell parts of insulating materiel, complementary cap elements of conducting materiel mounted upon the ends of the respeetive shell ports, a fusible element, tongues extending inwardly und outwardly from the cop elements of one oi seid, shell rmrts,'means for detaehebly connecting said fusible element to the inwurdlyextending tongues, ond means extending through the inwnrdlyextending tongues and the shell parts and their cops for detach-ably securing the seid elements together.
