Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concu'n:

Be it known that LANDREW H. CALDWELL, of Port Byron, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Hanger-Tape, of which the following is-a specification.

My invention has for its object the production of a particularly simple and efficables, and like arcient hanger for pipes,

the means hereintaining the loop of the hanger.

This hanger comprises a metallic tape which, for convenience, I have called a hanger tape, said tape being adapted to be cut at any point in order to form hangers of different lengths, and being formed with openings or slots 1 located at intervals along its length, one of the slots of a severed portion being adapted to receive an end of such portion, in order to form a loop in which the pipe, cable or other article is carried.

As here shown, the slots 1 extend lengthwise of the tape, preferably along the median line thereof, and are spaced at intervals throughout its length; and the tape is also formed with perforations 2 grouped in pairs and arranged at opposite sides of the line of slots 1, the perforations 2 being preferably located between the ends of the slots. The end of a severed portion of the tape, is foldable along the median line bringing a pair of the perforations 2 at said end into alinement, and forming a tongue 3 which is adapted to be inserted in any one of the slots 1, in order to form a loop in which the article, as a pipe 5, is supported, and to carry the alined perforations through the slot in position to receive a suitable locking means, as a pin 4:, for permanently maintaining the loop. The lengthwise slots are so spaced apart that a loop of any size can be formed, that is, a loop adapted to receive and fit pipes or other articles of different diameters. However, as seen in Fig. 5, the

perforations may be omitted and the folded end of the tape permanently secured in position to form a loop by spreading outwardly the portions 6 of said end at opposite sides of the median line.

In use the tape is put up for commercial purposes on reels or in coils, and hangers can be cut off at any point, one end portion of the severed portion being formed into a loop as described, and the other end being secured in any suitable manner to an overhead beam, wire or other support; or as seen in Fig. 4, the loop only may be formed of the tape and this loop secured to the overhead support 7 by means of a link 8 having its lower end passing through the alined perforations, and its upper end secured to the support.

\Vhat I claim is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a hanger tape having slots located at intervals throughout its length, and a line of perforations located at one side of the line of slots, substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a hanger tape having slots located at intervals along its median line, and perforations located on opposite sides of the line of slots, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a hanger tape having slots located at intervals along its median line, and perforations located on opposite sides of the slots and located between the slots, substantially as and for the purpose described.

4. As a new article of manufacture, a hanger tape adapted to be cut at any point and having slots located at intervals throughout its length, any one of the slots of a severed portion of the tape removed from either end of the tape being adapted to receive either end of such portion, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

As an article of manufacture, a hanger tape adapted to be cut at any point and having slots located at intervals through its length, either end of a severed portion of the tape being foldable upon itself along the median line of the tape forming a tongue, and any one of the slots removed from the folded end being adapted to receive said tongue, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

6. As a new article of manufacture, a

hanger tape adapted to be cut at any point and having slots at intervals throughout its length, and a line of perforations eX tending parallel to the line of slots, any one of the slots of a severed portion being adapted to receive the end of such portion, and the perforation at the end of the severed portion being designed to receive means for locking said end in the slot and thereby forming a permanent loop, substantially as and for the purpose described.

7. As a new article of manufacture, a

I hanger tape adapted to be cut at any point and having slots located at intervals along its median line, and perforations grouped in pairs and locatedon opposite sides of the line of slots, the perforations of each pair being arranged in position to come into alinement when the tape is cut at a point near said pair of perforations, and the end of a severed portion is folded along the median line, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

8. As a new article of manufacture, a
