To all whom it'moy concern:
Be it known that I, ED ARD P. MITCHELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Conneaut, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shades and Reflectors for Electric Lamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.
The object of the present invention is to provide an electric lamp fixture suitable for holding the lamps and the shades or reflectors therefor.
More particularly my invention relates to a fixture for use with such reflectors as those of the type commonly called holophane in which the relative position of the reflector to the center of luminosity of the light is a factor of the greatest moment in determining Where the rays of reflected light shall be cast.
The distance of the various parts of the reflectors from the center of luminosity has such a marked efl'ect, that heretofore whenever a change in effect has been desired a new. reflector has bee-n used; the common practice being for the user to notify the dealer precisely the distribution of reflected light desired, upon which, a proper selection of reflector is made by the'dealer. T have discovered, however, that, by making the holder for the reflector adjustable along its axis relative to the lamp to obtain the various eli'ects desired, within reasonable limits; and I have devised a means by which this-may be done without interfering in any manner with the connections of the electric bulb or impairing the efficiency of anv part of the fixture.
An embodiment of my invention is described in the following specification with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

The structure shown inthe drawings comprises a ventilated cr'own made up of upper and lower portions A, A suitably secured together by bayonet joint in such. manner that when the said joint is loosened the upper section may drop down over the lower the securing foot B bulb, it is possible to, and a reflector holder ex osed so that it may be applied to the eel ing or wall.
The lower section of the crown is secured to a three-legged spider C carried upon the central supporting stem B. hold the lower section rigidly in place. The supporting stem is hollow and threaded at its lower end B to receive the conventional form ofelectric lamp socket shown in dotted lines, the electric connections being carried through this hollow stem. I
It will be noted. that the stem is threaded in its immediate portion 3 and carries a holder D forthe reflector, this holder having a nut D at its upper end so that it is adjustable 'up and down on said stem: neck of the shade, indicated in dotted lines is secured to the lower end of the holder means of short set screws D or any other suitable device.
The lower crown section has an inwardly projecting flange A closely surrounding a cylindrical portion D of the reflector hol er, making a neat fit therewith. It will be .seen that when it is desiredto raise or lower the reflector relative to the center of luminosity of the lamp, which is fixetll through its socket to the supporting stem, gt will be necessary to do nothing more than rotate the reflector and its holder to secure the desired result, since the nut D fixed to the upper end of the reflector holder will rid up and down over the threads on the stem The range of movein'entnecessary is comparatively limited, and it will not be necessary to make the cylindrical portion D or that portion of a holder which fits closely to the lower portion of the crown section, of very great length,but it is desirable that it should be of a length sufficient that the neat appearance will not be affected by the relative position of the parts.
Having thus described my invent-ion, 1 claim:
1-. A fixture for electric lamps comprising a stem having a lamp socket secured there incasing said lamp socket and movable thereover, said holder mounted on said stem having means for holding a reflector, said holder being adjustable endwise upon said stem.
2. An electric lamp fixture comprising a crown piece having an extension shell, a lamp socket and means for sup orting the same, a holder for a reflector an means for This spider will The obtaining relative adjustment between the reflector holder, the lamp socket, and the said extension shell.
3. A fixture for electric lamps comprising a supporting stem having a lamp socket thereon, a reflector holder adjust-able relatively to said stem, and a surrounding shell, the edge of which closely approaches the adjustable reflector holder and permits longitudinal movement of the said holder.
4;. An electric lamp fixture comprising a supporting stein, said stem carrying a lamp socket and a reflector holder adj uslable relative to each other, a spider on said stem, anda shell secured to said spider, the lower edge of the shell closely approaching the reflector holder.
5. An. electric lamp fixture comprising a stem and a lamp socket, means for supporting the latter, a holder for a reflector mounted on said stem and movable over said lamp socket, and means for obtaining relative adjustment between the reflector holder and the lamp socket.
6. In a fixture for lamps, a supporting stem adapted to be secured to the ceiling, Wall, or the like, a crown piece secured on said stem and provided with an extension shell, a lamp socket secured on one terminal of the said stem, and a reflect-or holder adjustable on said stem within the extension shell.
