COASTING DEVICE FOR, PURPOSES 0F AMUSEMENT.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS N. Moss, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coasting Devices for Purposes of Amusement, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to attain a new and interesting form of amusement coaster for inclined runways, affording the illusion of an acre-car or air ship suspended from a buoyant body or carrier and travel ing smoothly through space, as in the case of dirigible balloons, &c., and the invention consists in the specific construction and arrangement of parts herein described and claimed, whereby the illusion is contributed to and maintained substantially as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation partly broken away, showing the essential features of my improved coasting apparatus; Fig. 2, is a transverse se'c tional. elevation thereof; Fig. 3, a view on a reduced scale showing a side elevation of the vehicle and adjacent side portion of an inclined runway.
The runway R, consists primarily of a smooth, broad floor 7', mounted upon trusses F, or other concealed means of support. Above the floor on cit-her side thereof, are the guards g, 9, formed with int-urned flanges g, g, which overlap side flanges or lateral shoulders c, c, on the body of the car C. The side guards g, 9, between the floor f, and the inturned flanges g, g, conceal the running gear of the car; and this portion of the structure, as well as the supporting frame work F, may be inclosed with canvas or other material painted or decorated externally to represent scenic and cloud effects to afford the illusion that the visible portion of the vehicle above the side guards g, g, is traveling through the air.
The body of the car C, is supported upon suitable running gear provided with wheels w, w, having rubber tires to, w, for the purpose of obviating noise and insuring smooth running. Supported upon and above the car C, is the representation of an elongated balloon B, the rods or wires Z), 6, which sustain the same being arranged to represent the suspenders usually employed in air ships of the dirigible type to sustain the car, &c. A rotatable propeller wheel 2), and other usual accessories may be added or represented as may be found desirable or expedient,-the essential feature in this con nection being the concealment of the running gear and supports, and the mounting of the superstructure by means representing the suspenders employed to suspend the car of an ordinary balloon.
It is to be understood that the runway may be arranged with alternately rising and des ending curves and inclines, and be otherwise formed and operated after any of the various forms and methods known in the state of the art.
v lhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters l atent is,
1. Coasting apparatus of the character designated comprising an inclosed runway consisting of a floor with side guards extending above the running gear or the vehicle, said side guards being formed with inturned flanges which overlap shoulders on the vehicle, and said vehicle formed with said shoulders, and with a superstructure representing a balloon supported on the vehicle by means which represent suspenders, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
Coasting apparatus of the character designated comprising an inclosed runway consisting of a tloor with side guards extending above the running gear of the vehicle, said side guards being formed with inturned flanges which overlap shoulders on the vehicle, and said vehic e formed with said shoulders, and provided with rubber tired wheels, and with a superstructure representing a balloon supported by means which. represent suspenders, for the purpose and substantially in the manner set forth.
