PERCY GORDON ECKERSLEY DANIEL, OF CLEVEDON, AND CHARLES ASHTON HENRY BULLOCK. F LONDON, ENGLAND.
MACHINE FOR COUNTING AND CHECKING STAMPS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 10, 1911.
Application filed February 19, 1910. Serial. No. BILLS-$5.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be il, known that ive, PERCY Gonuoh Eckensmiv DANIEL, of Clevedou, in he county of Somerset. England, organist, and CIIAnLns su'roX HENRY BULLOCK, of London, in the county of London, lhigland, publisher, have invented a certain ne and usew i'ul linprovenient in Machines for Counting and (,heiking Stamps and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invenion relates io an iu'lpro'ved device for vomiting and checking the suhpply of slanips, tickets and lhe like, and has for ils object lo provide a, device of improved consl'ruclion ol ihe kind where slainps or lhe like are .stored upon a reel from which lhcv can he drawn at will, each slamp or llie like iu its passage through lhe device causing the aclualion of a counting nieeliamsm.
The object' of our present invention is the provision of a device of this kind of simple oonsruelion which shall not he liable to get out of order and which shall not fail to regisler ever)7 stamp, for instance, wilhdrawn from l'he device whether the stamps be withdrawn singly or in considerablenuiw hers at a time.
ln. order hal; our invention maybe nuoro Iradily understood and carried into eiieei,
reference is hereby made to the accompanying sheet of illustrative drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a sectional. 'View oi. a device constructed in accordance willi our inven lion, and shown Willi its paris in ilieir normal positions. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing ihe posilions occupied iilie paris ol.' lhe nnuieliine ai l'he inonien; fl ln a slianip for instance has been exraelied frein die ina.- ehine and bc'lfore lhe moving paris ai *che machine have returned again to llieir mal position. Fig'. 23 is a :front View with part oi! the 'front cover removed in order to more clearly illustrate the invention, while Fig. 4; is a rear View, the counting mechanism being indicated in broken lines. l
Referring lo these drawings wherein like letters ol reference indicate correspondin paris wherever occurring lhroughoul; aY the figures, o designates :i meial or other box or easing of a width sufficient to aecounnodale a spool or reel b of stamps 0r the like. The spool or reel is removable and is mounted to revolve in bearings a2 provided in the side Y:ills al of the casing a. This easing u may be, and .preferably is., provided with ianges aF' to enable the device as a whole to be firmly attached to wall or the like. T he `stamp strip b1 passes from `lhe reel- Z) and is passed through e guide passage formed hy a rear bed o and a fronthinged cover d. Arranged to be (capable of sliding upon lhe bed c We pro 'vide a carriage e which has a spring eon ,trolled lever el provided at its free end willi pins or projecions e2 which normally engage in the perforations between die stamps, for instance, the free end of 'the klever projecting lLhrough an opening;v pri vided in die lied c. The carriage s conneried liv means of a eonneclionf i operating arm g ol a'counting e ,which lall'er is suialily Carried by or snspended from lhe casing; e.
.in operation die spool oi sinuips is an ranged in position in lhe casing; o with lhe pins or projections of ille lever e el in the perforations lieween two c the stamps; The hinged cover il is lilou closed upon the bed 0 and may if desirable loe locked in this posil'ion. lli llie free end of the slamp slrip o `is now pulled lie carriage c will, by reason of ille engagement oi the pins c2 in ille piu'ioraiions l Jhe neeiveen slanips, he drawn in opposiliiou to the in liuence of ille spring The bodily nieve-` uieni ol lhe carriA will nec 'l use ihe ir ci to also nieve .und :il eonliaelwiihiheeilgeegof lhe opening-,gc he lied c and iliis edge c? zic-ling as a. eaui, will ein the lever el lo lie turned. about ils l and jhus he pins o2 will he anio-` inaiic ily drawn oni. of die perforaizions of iii-he slamp slrip. uuwenieni'. of lie cri' ringe e will heure rave caused the op'. lion of iihe eonnl'er and ilins the wililulraiv of the 'slamp from lhe machine will he reg lzei'ed by lie mainline; device /n linniedn alzely the pins er are freed from ille sainp strip in 'die manner' helore described, lhe carriage e flies hack. le .iis normal posilion under ille influence of cdie spring; e' and Ldie pins snap into lili@ next of perforations iininediaiely die perferations are in a posim lion coinciding' willi l'hc' 'pins and Yhas any further niovonien oilE the stamp strip will cause the operations to be repealed.` It will thus he seen lhail every time a stamp is withdrawn from the machine, lie Counting device will. be operated and illus the' number' of Staines withdra'nfn can from time to Jfinie be read. It wiii of course be understood that the pins e2 must be suitably shaped and rounded so that while they do not pierce tiiestainp strip, they readily engage tbe periorations. y
