ANTICREEPING DEVICE FOR RAILS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR M. SMITH, a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in rhitici'eeping Devices for Rails; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skllled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a strong, simple and highly efficient device for preventing the creeping of railway rails, and which will automatically tighten its hold on a rail when creepage occurs.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.

longitudinally, the action thereof'being directed primarily against one of the. clamping members. As creepage occurs the head of the wedge will be forced against the face of the rail sleeper and the wedge thus caused to automatically tighten the clamp.
I claim as my invention 1. An anti-creeper for railway rails comprising two clamping members designed to engage arail base at opposite sides thereof and to be extended beneath the rail and overlap at their ends, one member having at its inner end a transversely extended diagonal bearing surface, and the other member having two straight bearing surfaces, and a wedge having a diagonal face for engaging the diagonal bearing surface of the first mentioned member, a straight face for engaging the straight surfaces of the other member, and a flat head at one end for bearing against a rail sleeper.
2. An anti-creeper for railway rails comprising two plates hooked at their outer ends and'with their inner ends 0verlapping,'said end of one plate having spaced-apart arms to accommodate the said end of the other plate, said overlapping ends having coinci dent longitudinal slots, the walls of the slots of said arms being straight and one wall of the slot of the other plate being diagonal, and a wedge designed to project through said slots having one straight face and a diagonal face, said wedge at one end being designed to engage a rail sleeper and at its other end split so that it may be bent in v opposite directions.
