Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
-Be it known that I, THOMAS lVINs'rANLnY, residing at 8 Livingstone road, Blackburn, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Humidifiers or Spray-Producers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in humidifiers or spray producers or apparatus for moistening the warp threads in looms when weaving. In order to produce the desired spray by the use of a brush revolving in a trough of water in the manner now practiced it is essential that the revolving brush should be rotated at a comparatively high speed and when this is done there is a tendency to throw the water out in too large a quantity or in drops instead of spray.
The object of the present invention is to overcome this defect and produce a very fine equal spray when the brush is rotated at a low speed driven by gear or ratchet and pawl from the crank shaft or other going part of the loom. Provision is also made whereby the spray can be localized and directed or delivered in any desired direction.
The invention consists in the use in combination with a rotary brush of a stationary brush with which the rotary brush is in contact and by which the water taken up is dispersed in a fine spray.
Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification-Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved humidifier. Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the improved humidifier a portion of one of the gear wheels being broken away. Fig. 4 is a cross sectionalview of the humidifier.
According to this invention a stationary and adjustable brush 1 is arranged on the inside upper part of the water trough 2. The revolving brush 3 rotates in contact with the stationary brush 1 and the water taken up by the revolving brush 3 is owing to the joint action of the revolving brush 3 on and with the stationary brush 1 thrown in the form of a fine spray through the gauze or perforated cover 4; of the opening in the trough 2. The combination of a revolving brush 3 with a stationary brush 1 produces the required fine spray and the revolving brush 3 can be driven at a low speed by means of gear or ratchet wheel and pawl from any going part or shaft of the loom. The revoluble brush may however be driven in any other approved manner. Heretofore it has only been possible to deliver the spray in one direction but this invention provides means whereby the spray can be delivered in any desired direction and localized on any required. point. This is accomplished by arranging the humidifier apparatus so that it can swivel on its trunnions 55 in its supporting brackets or pedestals 66 and be fixed or looked after setting to the de sired position or angle by tightening the screws 7.
The bristles of the stationary brush project from a bar 10 which is secured to the top edge of the trough so that the bristles project within the trough, and so that the brush 1 is moved with the trough when the trough is adjusted pivotally on its trunnions.
A convenient method of driving the revolving brush 3 is by mounting on the shaft or axis 8 of same a toothed wheel 9 meshing with a like wheel 10 on the stud 11 fixed in the bracket 12. On the stud 11 is also mounted a rocking lever 13 on the cranked end 14 of which ismounted the pawl 15 which at each downward stroke of the lever 13 operates the ratchet wheel 16 fixed on the boss of the wheel 10 so that the latter is rotated and drives the wheel 9 and brush 3. The lever 13 may be rocked or actuated from the crank shaft of the loom or in other desired manner from any desirable source.
The trough or humidifier is disposed or fixed to the loom adjacent to the warp threads so that the spray is localized on the warps and the atmosphere generally remains normal.
