FAN ATTACHMENT FOR DENTAL ENGINES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN S. FRIsBIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rotan, in the county of Fisher and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fan Attachments for Dental Engines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fan attachments for dental engines.
The object of the invention is to provide a fan adapted to be detachably secured to one end of the shaft of a dental engine whereby a breeze will be created when the engine is operated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the upper portion of a dental engine showing the application of the invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the fan removed from the engine.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the upper end of a dental engine which may be of the usual or any suitable construction and in which is revolubly mounted the inner ri id end of the drill Shaft 2. On the shaft 2 is fixedly mounted the usual drive pulley 3, which is connected by a belt 4 to the power mechanism (not shown). On the shaft 2 adjacent to one side of the pulley 3 is preferably mounted a wire brush 5.
On the end of the shaft 2 which projects beyond the pulley 3 is arranged my improved fan attachment, said attachment comprising a hub or sleeve (3 to which and projecting from the op osite side thereof are secured the blades 7 o the fan, said blades preferably projecting rearwardly and being curved laterally in opposite directions, as shown. The blades 7 are substantially elliptical in shape and are formed integral with a connecting piece 8, which is preferably curved to fit around one side of the hub 6 to which it is secured in any suitable manner. The hub is adapted to be slipped into engagement with the projecting end of the shaft 2 and is detachably secured thereto by a set screw 9, thus the fan is detachably securcd to the shaft, so that the fan is operated when the shaft is driven, thus creating a breeze for the benefit of both the operator and the patient.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a rotary fan the combination with a shaft, of a sleeve adjustably mounted thereon, means for securing said sleeve in adjusted position, and two blades formed in one piece with a semi-cylindrical connecting portion between them, said semi-cylindrlcal portion being secured to said sleeve in a position co-axlal therewith.
