WAGON-LOADER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 27, 1910.
Application filed June 28, 1910. Serial .No. 569,294.
To alluflw'm "it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANSEL McKinney, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Berclair, in the county of Goliad and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Loaders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in loading devices for wagons and has for an object, among others, to provide a novel construction of loader which will include a weighing means all being constructed so the material being loaded into the wagon may be weighed when supported from the loading devices and then conveniently delivered into the wagon or other receptacle; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as 'will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective View of the rear portion of a wagon with my improvements in place and the box for the material to be loaded lowered so it can 'be conveniently filled. Fig. 2 is a side view illustrating the parts in full lines as when the box is raised, dotted lines being used to illustrate other positions. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view illustrating the latch for holding the rocking frame 1n position.
In carrying out my invention I provide, what for convenience of reference, I term a lever frame A and a rocking frame B. The lever frame A has arms A and A and is provided near the juncture of the arms A and A which stand at approximately a right angle to each other, with trunnions C which are supported in bearings D carried from the wagon body E. The trunnions C are preferably the extended ends of a shaft C which shaft is clipped to the arms A of the lever frame by clips C so the shaft C may be adjusted relatively to the arms A. The arms A of the lever frame are shown as formed in sections adjustably connected at E so greater or less leverage can be secured as may be required in the operation of the invent-ion. I
In providing the bearings D for the shaft of the lever frame, I prefer to employ brackets D suitably secured at D to the wagon body and having arms notched to furnish the bearings D as best shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. The lever frame being thus pivotally supported in the bearings D can be tilted between the positions shown in full lines in Figs. 1 and 2 to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2 in which the arms A of the lever frame will elevate the rocking frame and adjust the same to a position over the wagon body so the contents of the box or holder F can be discharged into the wagon body as desired in the operation of the invention.
In normal position asshown in fu llylines in Figs. 1 and 2, "the arms A of the lever frame extend horizontally and rearwardly from the wagon body and the rocking frame I3 is pivoted at B 'to the arms A near their rear ends and one of said arms A has at its rear 'end, slightly in advance of the pivot B. a latch G which engages with the rocking frame below the pivot B and tends to hold the same in a position at a right angle to the arms A when the rocking frame is tilted 'to the position shown in full lines in Fig.2 of the drawing. This latch G has anextended arm G which projects outwardly beyond the arm A so the latch can be conveniently released and to facilitate this I provide a hand chain H connected with the said extended arm so the operator can conveniently release the latch, when desired.
The holder F which may be a box or other suitable form of receptacle, is suspended from one cross-bar B of the rocking frame and a hand chain I is connected with the opposite cross-bar B of the rocking frame, as shown. In suspending the box or holder F, I prefer to interpose a weighing scale which may be in the form of a steel-yard J as shown in Fig. 1, although I do not desire to be limited to this particular form of weighing scale. The box or holder F is adapted to fit between the side bars B of the rocking frame and it has at its ends pins or projections F which engage with the side bars B of the rocking frame to prevent any movement of the holder F through the said frame when the parts are tilted to the position shown in the upper dotted lines of Fig. 2.
In the operation of the invention, when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, the box or holder F can be conveniently filled. The operator can then, by pulling on the chain I turn the rocking frame B to the full line position shown in Fig. 2, thus elevating the holder F. The box and its contents may be weighed when the parts are in the full line position shown in Fig. lor when they are in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, as may be preferred. After the box has been raised to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, the lever frame can be rocked to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2 causing a discharge of the contents of the boX into the wagon body as will be understood from the drawing.
By forming the lever frame A with the handle arms A and the load supporting arms A and arranging said arms at approximately a right angle to each other with the pivoting means adjacent to the juncture of the said handle and load supporting arms, I provide for supporting the rockingframe which carries the load in such manner that the said frame may be tilted or rocked in connection with the lever frame, which latter can be rocked on its pivot to elevate the holder for the material to be loaded as more fully described hereinbefore.
It will be noticed that the invention can be conveniently connected with the wagon body for use by simply fitting the bearing portions in the bearings of the brackets D, which latter can remain at all times on the wagon body.
The invention is simple, easily adapted for use, efiiciently serves the purpose for which itis designed and provides a convenient loading apparatus in connection with means for Weighing the material being loaded into the wagon.
I claim:
1. The loading apparatus herein de scribed, comprising a lever frame having handle arms and load supporting arms at approximately a right angle to each other, means whereby the lever frame may be pivoted adjacent to the juncture of its said arms, a rocking frame having its side bars pivoted between their ends to the load supporting arms of the lever frame, a latch operating adjacent to said pivot of the rocking frame, means for supporting a holder from one end bar of the rocking frame and a pull device connected with the other end bar of the rocking frame, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A loading apparatus comprising a lever frame having handle and load supporting arms and pivotally supported at the juncture of said arms and a rocking frame pivoted to the load sup-porting arms of the lever frame, substantially as set forth.
3. A loading apparatus, substantially as described, comprising a pivoted lever frame and a rocking frame pivoted to said lever frame whereby the rocking frame may be tilted or rocked in connection with the lever able bodily up and down with the movements of the lever frame pivoted to the lever frame, a holder for the material to be loaded and means suspending said holder from the rocking frame and including a weighing scale, substantially as set forth.
6. A loading apparatus comprising a pivoted lever frame, a rocking frame pivoted to the lever frame and having side bars and an end bar, a holder for the material to be loaded suspended from the end bar and provided at its ends with means for abutting the side bars of the rocking frame, and a latch for the rocking frame, substantially as set forth.
7. A loading apparatus comprising a lever frame having handle and load supporting arms, the handle arms of the lever frame being in sections adjustably connected and a rocking frame pivoted to the load supporting arms of the lever frame, substantially as set fort-h.
8. A loading apparatus comprising a lever frame having handle and load supporting arms in fixed relation at approximately a right angle to each other, means for pivotally' supporting said frame adjacent to the juncture of its said arms and means for supporting the material to be loaded from the load supporting arms, substantially as set forth.
9. A loading apparatus comprising a" pivoted lever frame, a rocking frame pivoted to the lever frame whereby it may be raised and lowered by the tilting of the lever frame and whereby the rocking frame may be tilted on its pivot to raise and lower the load relatively to the lever frame and means for supporting the material to be loaded from the rocking frame, substantially as set forth.
