. a' full, clear, andv exact, descriptionof'the n u se the saine.
.ticular description of the invention, the pen 'reduced portion '3, said I in operative 'To dl'l'who'm it 'may concern:
4new .and usefullinprovements in Fountain' ,improvements in fountain pens .and VI nore i particularly to .pens ofv the' selfflling i5 type.
he'object of the invention-is to provide lis provi ed with the air Be it known' that-I, JOSEPH A. VOGEL- ing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, 'have invented certain Pens; and'I do declare'pthe following to be invention, such als-will Venable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains tomake and This invention relates` to new and "useful av pen of this character which'is verysimple in construction and Well adapted for the. purpose intended.
l lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, theinvent-ion consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arran ement of parts, as will be more fully descri ed, and particularly pointed out in the ap )ended claim'. f
In tie accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal fsection of a' pen embodying luy nn nrovenients; Fig. 2 is a side eleva-tion, partly broken away, show-ing the casing in an adjusted position. Fig. 3 is a transverse sect-ion, taken on line S-tof Fig. l; Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on line 4-tof said figure. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings for a more par- `comprises tlie pen holding section 1, consisting of the outer body portion 2 and the inner portions lieinghollowed out to provide the'mk reservoir 4. At the junction of the -body and reduced portions 2 and 3, respectively, .of the .pen holding section, is formed the exteriorly threaded shoulder 5, upon whichis adapted to screw' the inner threaded end-6 of 'the casing 7. This casing is of slightly greater diameterthan that of the reduced portion 3 and when position, the outer end thercoffits against --t e packin rin '8 disposed on the outer surface of t el re'uced portion 3 between 'the annular shoulders 9 and '10.
The outer end of the casing 7V is provided with the air vent 11 -and said end o'f the v Specicat'ioni of Lettera-Estat Application ma' umn 10,
reduced ortion 3 ofthe pen holding section ort 1'2. A rubber Washer 13 is arranged at t e outer end of lthe i lroulement.-imN,
Patentedec. 20, 1910. 19m. -serial No. 548,454;
Casing 7 to close the airport 12-w-l1enthe former is inl operative'. posltion. 'The casing 7 is' provided at its inner end andv atvdiametrica-ily o posite points with the. headless screws` 14,.-t Ie inner ends, 11s-15, of which project inwardly -beyond the.- inner' surface of the casing 7 and form' stopswhi'ch abut I against the annular; shoulder v.1DA .and limit 'the outward movement .pf4 the easing?.
The-numeral l16,'indieatesthe usual closure ufhichiissli pcd-over the oute. end of the 'n andv v sfhitih forms` nef-part of .this invention. i 'In fill-in .thepen,theforeingerof theo eratorisp need-over the air -vent 11 and t e casing 7 `withdrawn to its'farthermostzlimit which causes the inkto be sucked into the ink .reservoir 4. formed in thepenholding section.' The-tinger-is then removed from over the. air vent-l1 and the casing-7 returned to 'its normal oroperative osition, 'which brings the washer 13 over t e. air port 12. After the casing 7 'has been returned to operative position, the inne!-` end thereof is screwed on the threaded shoulder 5 of the pen holding sect-ion.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation ofthe inven; tion will be 'readily -understoodfrwithout requiringa more extended explanation. Various changesinthe form, proportion andthe minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle' o1' sacrificing any' of the advantages 'ofthe invention, as defined in the :lp- 'pended claim.
Having I claim is:
A fountain pen, comprising a 'pen-hold ing section having an ink reservoir therein and an aperturein its rear end communicat-v ing with said reservoir, a raised portion' at the forward end of said section, annular shouldersadjacent the rear extremity of said section, a casing loosely surrounding a portion' of the en-holding section and slidable thereon, said) casing having an air vent adjacent its rea-r extremityfmeans carried by the rear end of the s-lidable easing for closing the open-ing inthe rear end of the pen-holding section, circularlyepaced studs extending inwardly from the casing and contacting with the periphery of the pen-holding section between the raised forw-ard portion and one of said annular shoulders, and a packing l wnrdly a suction if; effected within the ink ring arranged between said annular shoull my hand in preelsence of two subscribing; wit' der? and forming laln ir-lghtdelllgfagement l nesses. witl the inner wu o t esli u) erasing 'whereby whensaid casing is moved rezlr- JOSEPH ANTHONY VOGELMANN' \Vitnesses: reservoir. i HENRY M.
