PRIMING 0UP.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 2, 1910.
Patented Dec. 20, 1910.
iiz/en vn ZZZQ??? dsz er ahg Specincation of letters Patent.
Application filed June 2, 1910. Serial No. 664.709.
To all i lzo'm may; concern:
' int i, Tuiuiu tis'ricniwu, States. residing at u ihe i niteu the countv of Cool: and State oi ii i a 'l a new and useful lincommonly provided: and my object to' provide :in inlproiei onstruclion of primer to. which when in he maintained closed operation (El Referring; to the accompanying driiiviiw'sz Figure 1 is 1; View end elevation or a priming cup constructed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. a view thereof -partly in elevation and partly in section.
The priming cup is formed of a bodyiortion 3 containing 1 longitudinally-e: tending passuge 4 terminating in an enlarged cup-shaped chamber 5 the Wall of which, represented at (S, is beveled inwardly as indicated at 7. Extending cross-wise through the member 3 is a conical bore 8 intersecting the pzi'sasage -l-., in which ii tepered rotary valve-plo 9 containing a crossconduit 10 journeled. The small end of the plug is encircled by a coiled spring 11 which is held under compression between washers 1:2 and l? urrounding the p um, by 11 cotter-pin l i, tlns spring serving to mold the tapered portion oi the plug, in close en- ,gngenient with the Wall oi the bore 8. The larger cud of the plug 9 is equipged with a bifurcated lug 15 between the arms of \YllHll a lever 16 is pivoted near its lower end. as iiidicnted at 17. The lever 16 is provided with a disk 18, forming a cover to? lhe'cup 5, which in its preferred form is provit ed with a circular boss 1) on its under-side preferuhly formed by striking down the central portion of the cover to the condition illustrated, the margins of this boss hein; beveled, as indicated at 20, at
i 1 I much it rests upon the beveled surtzice 4. Bearing lgainst the lower end of the lever t i exends into a longitudinally er:
in the large or" the pin located in to the left in Fin. '2 for relczisnhly hold the covcr on the cup-sent I.
'lhc harte ot' the device are so constructed ind arranged that when the port 10 in the 1g 1 extends transversely of the passage u like incniher Z the cover 18 will fitover e cup as illuetratcd in Fig. and when .e lever it is turned to rotate il plug to open the passage 4. the cover will he removed iron) the position illuslratei'l to 'nncover the cup for permitting it to he filled with oil, a stop 23 on the lever ll) operating" to prevent undue swinging of the lever, and the beveled surfaces 7 and 20 on the cup and boss 19 periniltine" the latter to slide over the upper edge ot the cup, the spring 21 in this c332- iition yielding to permit such movement. lhe cover may he elido'tl as. describe), or, if desired, may he removed by swinging the lever iii against the action of thespring 21 to lift the eover clear of the cup in the operation of turning the plug-"9.
It Will be manifest from the foregoing description that the cover 19 is firmly held to its seat when in covering position and that any tendency to unseating thereof, as by the *ibration of the engine, is overcome.
While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be understood as intending to limit it to such construction, as the same may be variously modified Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A valved priming-cup provided with a spring-pressed cover mo able from closed to open condition by turning the valve, and means on said cover, cooperating With the edges of said cup for preventing lateral displacement of the cover.
2. A valved priming-cup, provided with zi spring-pressed cover movable from closed to open condition by turning the valve, and means on said cover extending through the lane of the edge of the cup and cooperating therewith for preventing lateral displacenientof the cover;
3. A 'valved priming-cup provided with a s ring-pressed cover-movable from-closed to open condition by turning the valve, and means on said cover extending into the cup and cooperating with the edges thereof. t'nv the purpose set forth l. valved priming-cup provided with a spring-pressed cover movable from closed to open condition by turning the v; lve, and a boss on said cover extending into said cap and cooperating With the edges thereof, for the purpose set forth.
it valved priming-cup provided with a spring-pressed cover movable from closed to open condition by turning the valve, and a beveled projection on said cover extending into said cap, for the purpose set forth.
(5. A valved priming-cup provided with a spring-pressed cover movable from closed to open condition by turning the valve, and a beveled circular boss on said cover extending into said cup, for the purpose set forth.
A'valved priming-cup having the outer edge of its cup beveled and provided with a s ning-pressed cover formed, with a boss extending into said cup and movable from closed to open condition by turning the valve, for the purpose set forth.
5:. ll. valved prin'iing-cnp provided with a spring-pressed cover 11K able from closed to open condition by turning the valve, and formed with a depressed portion ail'ording a boss extending into said enp for the purpose set forth.
n. valved priming-cup, a lever pivo'ta-lly connected with the valve-plug, a cover car- 0 ried by said lever and cooperating With the clip, and a spring tending to hold the cover on the cup, said cover being so constructed as to interlock with the walls of said cup under the action of said spring, for the purpose set. forth.
10. A valved priming-cup formed With a valve-stein, avalve-operating lever yieldingly connected with said valve-stein, and a cover for the cup carried by said lever.
11. Av valved priming-cup formed with a valvesteln, a valve-operating lever pi votally connected with said valvestem, a cover for the cup carried by said lever and means for yieldingly holding said cover against the cup. 4
.12. it valved priming-cup formed with valvesten a valve-operating lever pivotally eonneeted with said valve-stenn a cover for the cup carried by said leve and constructed to illtellOCh' with the cup, and means for yielding ly forcing said lever in the direction. to hold the cover on the cup.
